Serious question. If you are playing on the road and you hear noise, doesn't that pump you as well if, as you say, it is the noise and standing that get you going.

I've used this example before.  At baseball games, a home batter is up and has a full count, everyone is yelling and screaming.  When the home pitcher has 2 strikes on an opponent all the people are yelling and screaming.  So is that noise an advantage for, the batter, pitcher or fielders? Home team or visitors?

the players can usually tell from context if the noise is positive or negative.

it's not just the presence of noise, but the intention behind that noise.

fans chanting "USF! USF!" works on the same psychological mechanism as a personal trainer saying "cmon Ricky! U can do it!" as u do push-ups... Or whatever.

it's encouragement. Or distraction, if home fans are making noise while visiting team's offense is on field, etc.

Thanks for the vote of confidence.

But back to baseball, people just yell and clap. Don't usually hear "defense, defense" at baseball games. I imagine that the yelling amps up the batter and pitcher assuming that it has that affect.

Edit: And I imagine in football most times the teams are hearing "noise".  We didn't chant USF on every 3rd down. We stood and yelled.

Another thought. Football, on offense, they ask for the crowd to be quiet to hear the signals, so what is amping them up?

Just some random stuff popping through my head. Now, need to pack to get out of Chicago.

It's not my fault no one was cheering. I would have told you dad to take it up with the so-called supporters of the school and it's athletic department and quit taking it out on me.

I'm about 50/50  standing/sitting.  Section 109, Row K.  Seems not to be a problem there.

I stand on 3rd Down Defense, 4th Down offense attempts, Red zone offense, goal line defense stands, touchdowns and whenever my knees are cramping.  I'm 6-1 270lbs, so I make quite a wall to see around and I try to be courteous to those behind me.  My dad is in a wheelchair, so I understand not being able to stand and see.

Did see about 90,000 Nebraska fans sit and watch Frost lose to Troy (where my daughter attends).
