Buddy of mine just ran into Coach Allen (in Tampa) and asked him about all of this. Said Coach pretty much told him that he was leaving, but that it wasn't "official" yet and wouldn't directly say it.

I know it's hearsay, but I'm just relaying what I was told. Take it for what you all will, but I think he's gone.

Is your buddy a guy who's in the know? Or were they in line at Publix and Allen just figured he'd start telling randoms in USF gear he's out the door and no one in the media picked up on this?

Anything is possible I guess, but I would find it kind of strange that, as an SEC job, there is national media probably calling and checking every 15 minutes and his camp refuses to make any comments about the Auburn job, but he is ok talking about it openly while just happening to run into him?

Sounds a little suspect to me.

Nice to know he's confident, but deals are never done until there done.

I hope we make a run at someone who can seriously recruit. If we get another dynamic recruiter on board things could get really interesting. This person would have to be able to teach fundamentally sound as well.

At 7 am this morning I heard talk on Sirius college station that Tom Allen to Auburn is not happening and Auburn is continuing their search.  Face it Auburn needs to hit home run with proven Defense coordinator or their head coach next year is gone if he has another 6-6 season.

If Tom Allen is going to be bought with awesome bribes like that, he's definitely better off staying in Tampa.  I'm pretty sure Auburn hasn't received a Publix yet.

Edit:  ****.  just looked it up, they have two Publix stores.  :/

This is great news - although I did not think the sky is falling if Allen left.

Hopefully the defense can continue what he started.   There is plenty of room for improvement.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
