From the surface I like it. How much did he have to do with the success of Ole Miss' defense though? Hopefully he's a good recruiter.

 

Good question.  I think in this case, you have to hope that Allen's being a coach for a top notch SEC defense means he learned some good strategies and knowledge at Ole Miss that he can use here.

Ole Miss linebackers coach/special teams coordinator Tom Allen, whose Tampa roots run nearly a quarter-century deep, is expected to be named USF's new defensive coordinator as early as today.

ESPN.com's Derek Tyson, who played for Allen at now-defunct Temple Heights Christian School and later was an Armwood quarterback when Allen served as Hawks defensive coordinator, reported the hire Monday morning.
