Those other retreads won't get it done. It's not an easy job - hence our track record over the last 30 years. Exactly and we are on the jagged edge here with respect to athletics. One more Seth Greenberg, Robert McCullum, or Stan Heath coupled with a poor showing by our FB team and you will see empty venues (Sun Dome and RJS) like you've never seen before. Some would sacrifice our very athletic life for the sake of their holier-than-thou perceptions of what a great coach should be. Which is irony with a heaping helping of hypocrisy as they refuse to forgive someone of his trespasses. Green-goggled ********!!

Some of you seem to revel in the, "win at whatever cost" mentality. Where we are as a sports department, we can't afford to have any kind of NCAA sanctions levied against us. It could put us in a position that we may never recover. There are winning candidates out there that don't have this kind of baggage. I don't think that is most of the bullspen mentality when it came to Pearl, i think most us of admit he made a mistake while at Tenn. The problem is some on here have a hell no metality because he has one blemish(on record). I'm in the camp that you have to take risk like these sometimes to reap the rewards. No hire is a guarentee but someone with a proven track record is easier to get past his blemishes. The guy lied about having a **** barbecue, he didn't crash his motorcycle with a mistress on the back who he hired to his staff. Big differences in level of "scumbag" here. Pearl made a small mistake, and he paid for it. He will propel Auburn into relevance, and we will sit by and watch. I wasn't referring to Pearl per se, just the attitude on this board that it doesn't matter what one has done as long as they can win. BTW, he did a little more than lie about a BBQ, he knowingly violated NCAA rules by having a recruit at his BBQ (he told the recruit he wasn't supposed to have him there), then lied and tried to get others to lie about it. For the record, I wasn't against Pearl being hired. In his defense, the rule he broke is no longer an NCAA violation.

That's not really relevant and the cover up was probably far worse than the actual violation. I'm all for given people second chances and if I were to interview him, I would tell him that, those things can't happen here. It's a moot point anyway. IMHO, I don't think he was ever interested in our opening.

We don't even know if he had interest in coming here. Once a real list of candidates emerge, then I think we will find the guy who will lead us back to the NCAA Tournament. Now lets focus our energies on better candidates. I'll check back with you at the end of the MBB season next year. We can compare where USF is and where UA is with respect to the MBB landscape. Bruce Pearl was the best available candidate, period, and time will prove it.
