There are good candidates out there, the powers that be just need to keep their eyes as open as possible when looking for guys to approach about the job. Billy Donovan had some success at Providence, then turned Florida into a basketball power, in a place where no one gave a crap about hoops. There's a guy out there for us, retread or not.

The worst part about Pearl not coming here is that we won't get to see Bull Daly's head explode with unicorns puppies and plush toys...

Agreed. Anyone else on the radar that has a shady past we can hitch our hopes to?

I wouldn't quite say that. They had a Final Four a couple years before he arrived.

It's a fine line between delusional and optimistic. Don't crush my dreams.

In his defense, the rule he broke is no longer an NCAA violation.

That's not really relevant and the cover up was probably far worse than the actual violation.  I'm all for given people second chances and if I were to interview him, I would tell him that, those things can't happen here.  It's a moot point anyway.  IMHO, I don't think he was ever interested in our opening.

the problem people have(thjos in the Pearl camp anyway) was that he was probably never given the chance(for all we know, just speculation on my part)

Pearl WAS the only available coach that could win here. Those other retreads won't get it done. It's not an easy job - hence our track record over the last 30 years.

Please, Terry. I think Pearl, along with maybe Howland, was the only coach who would bring immediate buzz to the program. There are certainly others out there who can win here. Stan did it with lowly recruits like a Sunbelt point guard, **** for facilities/support, and no offense. The trick will be finding the right coach.

LOVE how people here are saying USF dropped the ball by not hiring Pearl.

However they have absolutely NO idea what happened between USF and Pearl

Including if Pearl was even interested in coming here in the first place.

Also.. Auburn have exponentially more amount of financial resources than USF.  They can laugh at USF's maximum highest offer available.

This doesn't even count the backdoor channels that SEC teams are famous for.

A school can win without hiring, "scumbags" (not my word). Some of you seem to revel in the, "win at whatever cost" mentality. Where we are as a sports department, we can't afford to have any kind of NCAA sanctions levied against us. It could put us in a position that we may never recover.

There are winning candidates out there that don't have this kind of baggage.

I don't think that is most of the bullspen mentality when it came to Pearl, i think most us of admit he made a mistake while at Tenn. The problem is some on here have a hell no metality because he has one blemish(on record). I'm in the camp that you have to take risk like these sometimes to reap the rewards. No hire is a guarentee but someone with a proven track record is easier to get past his blemishes.
The guy lied about having a **** barbecue, he didn't crash his motorcycle with a mistress on the back who he hired to his staff. Big differences in level of "scumbag" here.

Pearl made a small mistake, and he paid for it. He will propel Auburn into relevance, and we will sit by and watch.

I wasn't referring to Pearl per se, just the attitude on this board that it doesn't matter what one has done as long as they can win.

BTW, he did a little more than lie about a BBQ, he knowingly violated NCAA rules by having a recruit at his BBQ (he told the recruit he wasn't supposed to have him there), then lied and tried to get others to lie about it.

For the record, I wasn't against Pearl being hired.

And that rule was so stupid it's not even a rule anymore

Never mind, just saw the other posts saying the same crizzap.
