He must be loyal and turn down better jobs for the rest of his life, but USF should fire him for a better coach 2 months ago.

Woulard would bankrupt us if he

I like the idea of restructuring the contract to reward the turnaround as well a bring the contract in to line with Taggart's/team's place in the conference and football world with an eye on the future.

Structure the contract so he is the 2nd or 3rd highest paid coach in the conference or wherever Harlan feels the team and coach are at this point.  Then build incentives to make the highest paid if we championship game and pay for it with the allotment we receive if we go to the New Years Day Bowl.

Then tell Willie, hey, you are the guy we believe that can take us to the P5. Then emulate the incentives Houston layered into Hermann's contract.

Rip up the old contract, start the timer now on a 5 year deal rather than an extension. Build in the incentives so he is rewarded yet still has the carrot to continue to grow.

A lot of the success is credited to the assistants so they also need to be rewarded benchmarked on where they rank within the conference and according to their worth in the college football landscape.

I think we can keep the core group of coaches together as long as it is done responsibly, intelligently and not trying get these guys on the cheap because ultimately it will end up more costly.

exactly

Houston pays the most at $3M and an 0-12 UCF just ponied up $1.7M for a guy that has never been a HC before. You have to pay the man more than he currently gets. Why would anybody want to insult him by not reworking his deal? why would any fan want to go through another coaching change now?

BTW I'm not sure why there are people on here that don't want to give Taggart a raise and cite his terrible record and lack of success and then turnaround and say we can just get Allen to be our HC. The guy has 1 year as a coordinator. While he might prove someday to be a good HC, he has certainly not shown anything but 1 years worth as a DC with young talented players that were brought in before he was here.

Pay the guy and his assistants market value. that's somewhere between $3m for winning the conference and $1.7M for never coaching before and taking over a 0-12 team.

Yes restructure his contract, we got him on the cheap and now he is worth more. He has proven he can turn this program around.

Pay him 2 million with incentives to win conference and increase pay for other coaches.

If he does well next year...beats fsu and conference win then give extension and pay him 3 plus million a year..

I don't get why some people think we should do otherwise.

Should we go out and hire an unproven coordinator that has never been a head coach and pay him $1.7M per year even though he has no recruiting ties to the area?

That's what UCF did and they are paying him $550k more than Taggart.

A guy with no experience, no recruiting connections and no ties at all to the area and he is making more than a guy that we have that has signed nothing but top 3 recruiting classes at USF.

I love this donation shaming going around to stifle conversation.   Were the Willie haters raising money to buy him out if we fired him?

Yes I give, I'm a donor and season ticket holder.  If Harlan is passing a hat around for the purpose of keeping CWT  I haven't seen it.

The point was how much more will you be donating?  Most on here on donors at one level or another.  But when people want coaches fired and there is buyout are they willing to step up?  Or if someone wants an extension for a coach are they willing to step up?  Easy to spend someone else's money.

so if the 25 or so regular posters on TBP all contribute an additional $1,000 each we could raise CWT's salary from $1.15 million per year to $1.17 million per year.

Make the students pay for the raise...just double the athletics fee. Seems like what we have done in the past!  (this post is sarcasm)

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
