Halftime will feature a Flag football game with former players. I like that. Wish I was in town.

It's been so long since I've been on campus I'm going to have to figure out where the soccer stadium is.  Looking forward to it!

Interesting.  I would have thought that with only 8 days away, there would too many commitments already in progress to staff RJS and have food/beverages ordered to hold this event.  Yes - I realize that only a couple thousand people attend so maybe there isn't much prep needed.

Maybe I should just embrace the more "intimate" setting and not think too much about how our program and event like this are so insignificant that the location can be changed just like that.

Regardless, longer drive for me from St. Pete, but always enjoy getting back on campus.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

USF To Hold Spring Football Game On Campus

March 29 game to be held at Corbett Stadium on USF campus

Former Bull B.J. Daniels to hold kids camp prior to game

Former Bulls standouts to hold a flag football game at halftime

TAMPA, MARCH 21, 2014 – University of South Florida Director of Athletics Mark Harlan announced today that the Bulls will hold their annual Spring Game, March 29, at Corbett Stadium on the USF campus.

“The spring provides a unique opportunity to do different things and showcase our football program in different areas,” Harlan said. “Willie and I talked, and we thought it would be fun to play the spring game on campus. We have a beautiful soccer venue in Corbett Stadium and our fans and students will enjoy seeing our team in that setting. In the fall, when the games count, the Bulls will run out of the tunnel at Raymond James Stadium, our proud home.”

“I think it is great,” Bulls head coach Willie Taggart said. “We had a really good experience when we went down to Bradenton a couple of weeks ago and it makes sense to play this game on our campus. The support of our fans and student body is critical as we build this program and this will be a really fun and unique way to deepen the connection to all of them.”

In a continuing effort to bring his USF program closer to Bulls fans, Taggart has opened up six USF practices to the public this spring and took his team to practice on his old high school field at Manatee High School in Bradenton where they were greeted by nearly 400 fans.

Kickoff for the Spring Game, which had had been previously scheduled for Raymond James Stadium, will remain at 4:00 p.m. with admission and parking remaining free. Fans are encouraged to come early and enjoy the festivities in and around Corbett Stadium, the home of USF’s men’s and women’s soccer teams. The stadium has bleacher seating for approximately 1,000 fans and there will be festival style seating on the large grassy berms surrounding the field with fans encouraged to bring blankets to sit on.

The game will feature a USF student tailgate with games, free food (with valid current USF student ID), and T-shirts for the first 500 students. A Kids Zone with a bounce house, air brushed tattoos and other events will be located at the stadium and fans are invited to join in a post-game autograph session with coaches and players on the field following the game.

Former Bulls quarterback B.J. Daniels, who was a member of the Super Bowl winning Seattle Seahawks last season, will be among several former Bulls that will compete against each other in a flag football game at halftime of the Spring Game.

Daniels will also hold a free football camp for youth in grades one through eight on the Morsani Football Practice Complex fields. The camp will run from 11-3 p.m. prior to the Spring Game with registration beginning at 10 a.m. at the Lee Roy Selmon Athletics Center. Daniels will be joined by other fellow current NFL players such as Kayvon Webster, Sam Barrington and Terrell McClain at the camp.

The Spring Game can be heard live on 98.7 The Fan with a 30-minute pre-game show starting at 3:30 p.m.

The Bulls began spring practice on Feb. 26 and will complete their 15 practice dates next week culminating with the annual Spring Game.

The Bulls return 17 starters (10 offense, 5 defense, 2 specialists) for Taggart’s second season at the helm, which kicks off on Aug. 30 vs. Western Carolina at Raymond James Stadium. The Bulls 2014 non-conference schedule features home clashes vs. Big Ten foe Maryland (Sept. 6) and ACC opponent N.C. State (Sept. 13) as well as a road game at perennial Big Ten power Wisconsin (Sept. 27). USF will welcome UConn (Fri., Sept. 19), East Carolina (Sat., Oct. 11), Houston (Sat., Nov. 1) and UCF (Fri., Nov. 28) to Raymond James in American Athletic Conference action.

USF football season ticket renewals are now available. Members may renew their tickets today online, by calling 1-800-GoBulls, or in person at the Ticket Sales and Service Center in the Sun Dome administrative offices (Gate B).

It's about time. They held the Green & Gold bowl there a few years back, not sure why they wouldn't do the same with the Spring Game.

That was my thinking, also ... Sounds like a cool idea, though. Should definitely get more students attending ..... who should be relegated to the berms to save the seats for us fogies.
