He may not coach their bowl game.

Yeah unfortunately being in the aac teams can’t compete with the $$$ the “p5” have.

Yes and we will host.

What tiebreaker for hosting do we hold over a 1 loss Memphis or SMU?

Houston could be the perfect team to beat us since we love running up middle and they have best interior d line guy...no other team we face can do I think on D what Houston did.

The thread title bothers me.

It does matter because:

1. National perception.

2. Recruiting, kids notice this stuff.

3. We now have no games to give and we still have a Tulsa team to play that blew the doors off Houston.  The Black Friday game may not matter because one more loss and ucf wraps up the division before we even play.

4. This is the first team we have played with a winning record and we lost.

5. We will not stay a top 25 team.

6. My faith in beating ucf just took a major nose dive.

Well said. Especially #1 and #2. We have so few opportunities to make noise we can't squander them. We just showed the press they were right. That hurts. In our conference you have to do it better and cleaner than the P5. We have failed doing that this year.

You are right - it doesn't change much. Still same path to conference championship.. but the team that played today will not beat UCF or Memphis or most any bowl eligible team.

Good news is, we're only going to play 3 bowl eligible teams this year, so mark us down for a 9 win season!

Would it not come down to ranking? If we manage to get past an undefeated UCF team, we'd probably be ranked the highest.

Don’t know what the AAC tiebreaker is for hosting the CCG. Are you saying it’s the higher CFP ranking?  Nothing like division record or common opponents first?

Site selection criteria

The site of the Championship Game is the home stadium of the division champion with the best overall conference record. In the event that the two division champions are tied, then the head-to-head record shall be used as the tiebreaker. If the two teams did not play, the following procedure is used to determine the host:[5]

  • College Football Playoff ranking, under the following conditions:
    • If only one division champion is ranked entering the final week of conference play, it will host if it wins in that week. If that team loses, a composite of four computer rankings is used to determine the host.
    • If both division champions are ranked, the higher-ranked team that won in the final week will host. If, in this scenario, neither wins in the final week, the same computer ranking system is used.
    • If neither division champion is ranked, the aforementioned computer rankings are used.
  • If neither CFP nor computer rankings determine a host, the teams' records against common conference opponents are used.
  • If still tied, overall record determines the host.
  • Finally, a coin toss is held at the conference offices.
