This is a very strong rivalry. BYU will never officially “go down” to the minor league when their biggest rival and instate challenge is in a P5 conference. The optics would be terrible for them and this is why they are independent now. I would bet they would even decide to lose $ by staying independent than going to a conference for a bit more. I really don’t think the next contract with ESPN will be all that bad. Interestingly, last night their 1-3 team was completely sold out.
