I hope they didn't make this hire based on availability. this program is in shambles. not sure there is anything worth saving. I hope they weren't thinking short term.

There was probably some basis on availability but if it was an emphasis, they would have taken the interim off CMB.

That is more than I thought we'd be paying him.

Same here.  That's a major committment. We have a lot of money.

How the hell are we ONLY giving him a $100k bonus if he wins the national championship?!? Seriously... it should be a million, easily. And Magnum P.I.'s Ferrari. Not the same model, the actual car. And he should get Judy's on campus house. Also, he should get a Sun Doll as a personal assistant.

I've heard that GT was in the same situation when he arrived there-on probation and in real trouble. He took THAT and build an NIT team. I don't think people realize how difficult his job was. He may well be a reclamation project specialist.

Normally I'd tend to agree with that philosophy but in this situation, where you've got supposed rumblings of a mass exodus and no committed recruits, you need someone ASAP to come in and start working on it. Nobody available now, or 2 or 3 weeks from now, was going to be able to come in, wave a magic wand and get this thing back on track. 2 or 3 years from now we'll find out how good a hire this is.

Again if Harlan was concerned about a mass exodus then he should have made Bartow the HC as soon as the season ended. Right now where USF is at, the threat of more players leaving really doesn't matter all that much. We need a lot of players, good players to turn this program into something other then a bottom feeder. Unless Gregory has turned around his approach to building a program then USF could have waited 2 or 3 threes to gauge the interest of other coaches. Gregory is known as a terrible recruiter, a coach who has a hard time closes the deal,  easily the worse in the ACC. Hoping to build a team full of decent to good transfers will not do it at USF. I'm real interested in his hiring of asst coaches because he needs some real bulldogs who can get some solid players into USF for him.

Okay, here's how I'm interpreting it for myself.

(1) Is USF better after this hire? Yes. We now have a new coach, and Bartow remains on staff. So, that is better than the day before.

(2) From articles that I read, the new coach reads like an upstanding person. We won't be stepping on toes to win. So, that's a positive.

(3) HOW MUCH IS USF PAYING for the 6-year contract? If it's cheap, then it is a good choice. If we are throwing out a cool million per season, then it's a questionable move on USF's part.

(4) It all comes down to recruiting. He seems to be able to coach well on the floor with the upsets and being able to utilize the transfer talent to make a run during his last season at G-Tech.

It doesn't matter who we bring in as coach as long as we can upgrade the talent by many, many folds.

Can the new coach and his to-be-assembled staff recruit the State of Florida? --Unknown right now.

:lmao:

(3) HOW MUCH IS USF PAYING for the 6-year contract?

His last 5 seasons at Dayton he averaged 23 wins a year, dipping below 20 to 19 only once. If THAT'S what his approach to building a program produces why in the hell would you want him to change it?

To go along with the 5 20+ win seasons at Dayton, he won 21 his last at Ga Tech and Pastner won 18 with primarily his players. If he sucks at recruiting, he must be one helluva coach.

He better recruit the state of Florida. No way should we have as many NY players as we have Florida players(2). COA thought he needed to travel the globe to get players. more international players than from Florida.they don't mesh

FGCU wins because they recruit the state. 4 of top 5 scorers are from this state. The other one is from Georgia and is a UCF transfer.

Guys like Jimmy Baxter, Reggie Kohn. Altron Jackson, BB Waldon, Dominique Jones, Solomon Jones, Chucky Atkins, Charlie Bradley, etc.

Not saying you don't mix in other guys but our roster should be primarily from Florida.

This is spot on. There are players here to be had and we haven't had any in what, 5 yrs?
