That is more than I thought we'd be paying him.

We are competing against UCF who has 9 FL players on their roster. 3 of their top 4 scorers are from Orlando

And 8 of them were there last year and got their coach fired. If our new coach can mine FL, great, but it's not a priority, getting players in here that can play is.

I can only speculate how many possible coaches may have turned us down. :stirpot:

This probably only adds to that speculation

Or how many possible coaches they could have gotten interest from since they were more then capable of putting a good package deal together.

obviously you want the best players.

here is a map of where recruits come from geographically . notice how most of them come from mid-atlantic states. also note where the majority of players in a conference come from their surrounding states.

I'm not saying you need to recruit your state exclusively but it's dumb to almost ignore it entirely.

http://deadspin.com/map-where-do-college-basketball-recruits-come-from-1507395145

This was from 2014 and it says 223 players came from the state of Florida.

it says that only Texas(21) had more recruits in the AAC than Florida(16). it said we had 4 of them.

Normally I'd tend to agree with that philosophy but in this situation, where you've got supposed rumblings of a mass exodus and no committed recruits, you need someone ASAP to come in and start working on it. Nobody available now, or 2 or 3 weeks from now, was going to be able to come in, wave a magic wand and get this thing back on track. 2 or 3 years from now we'll find out how good a hire this is.

I hope they didn't make this hire based on availability. this program is in shambles. not sure there is anything worth saving. I hope they weren't thinking short term.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."

    Terry Lucas, 09/26/22
