All that was Tom Jones' blathering, not Vega.

Didn't see the link. Just read what turned out to be the article.

Good hire. We need a guy that can help turn this dumpster around.  It wasn't a flashy hire but neither was Taggart and we saw what he did.

We can't afford a big name hire and why would they want the hassle of turning around this disaster unless we paid a ton of money.

USF BB will continue to be irrelevant.  Glad I didn't hold any high expectations for this hire.  I wish him luck and he is going to need it.  About all he can sell is early playing time for new recruits.

Even that's not a huge sell.  Because of, "one and dones" almost every school can tout early playing time.

The kids that would be replacing the one and dones are on a different level. You can still get some solid talent that is looking for playing time.

I agree.

Most of the articles about this hire fail to mention that Brian Gregory stepped into a Georgia Tech program with 3 years left on probation. He had zero chance for a quick turnaround there.

Per Izzo:

"I thought he got fired for some of the wrong reasons when I look back on a guy that took a job, was under three years probation there when he got the job," Izzo said. "And as Mike Krzyzewski told me when he got fired, he did an unbelievable job in the ACC his last year. So I'm proud of him, happy for him, excited and I know our staff is, and I think he'll do a heck of a job there."

Despite paying Antigua and Heath to not coach here next season, I think we probably could have got some "whales" to chip in for a "big name." The problem with USF MBB, at the moment, is that it's a total disaster. Hopefully, Gregory is able to pull this thing around.

I completely agree, he should not be resuscitated.
