Upon telling starter Mike White at halftime Saturday that he was contemplating a quarterback change, Coach Willie Taggart said the sophomore responded with one of his most effectives signal of the day.

A scowl.

It was all Taggart needed to make a decision. White started the second half against Tulsa and the rest is, quite literally, history.

"I was impressed," Taggart said Tuesday. "If he would have put his head down and pouted, I probably wouldn't have put him back in. But he looked at me like, 'To (heck) with you, Coach,' and I liked that.

"I want our quarterback to be that way and it meant something to him. Sure enough, we gave him a chance and he took advantage of it."
