Clearly White is the starter at this point.  Also it is very clear that we'd be much farther along as a team if we had not suffered through basically a full season of White beginning to learn how to play QB.  White can throw the ball better, Bench is still miles ahead mentally.  Taggart decided to sacrifice wins for a hopefully brighter future.  The second half against Tulsa shows the upside if CWT was right, the first half shows the downside if he was wrong.

White saw something in the defense early in the second half and called an audible. White then handed the ball off to freshman back Marlon Mack, who zoomed along the left side and sprinted 54 yards to the end zone to spark USF’s 20-point turnaround.

Is that true or is Zebold just making stuff up? Maybe all that motion is more than window dressing.

Joey Johnstons USF column in today's paper had a little more detail on it ... First time he'd called an audible ... even repositioned Price from once side to the other.

Bench likes to close his eyes sometimes when he throw the ball. Seems like every other 15+yd pass from him is an interception. Hes good at scrambling though, thats about the only advantage he has over White. And even that's going to get surpassed by Flowers soon enough.

This is exactly why Taggart is nearly emotionless on the sideline all game, even after bad things like penalties, and good things like TD's.    He wants this team to create it's own fire.  He can do it for them, like how Leavitt used to, but in the long run that's not how to build a championship caliber program.  We saw that before.   It was like the team was on Red Bull.  They would be all pumped and would win the big game, and then for the next 3 weeks they would crash and never recover.

The key now is for White to carry some of that emotion and fire within him into each and every game now.  This week will be telling.  Cincy's defense is AWFUL, maybe even worse then Tulsas..  I could easily see us scoring 35 - 40 on them, but if we come out flat again, it will be tough to come back down 20+ points.  Cincy can score points, and they will.

You can say that to your coach and not get slapped?!

I'm sure Taggart is aware of USF's history with Leavitt and wants to keep his job.

If he's aware of Leavitt's history and wants to keep his job, he better start winning like him. Hopefully Tulsa is the start.

Egads!  First time he's called an audible?

No wonder the offense has struggled.  CWT relies heavily on the QB calling audibles.

Pretty sure CWT relies on players catching the balls that hit them in their hands, too ... The offense has struggled for a myriad of reasons but hopefully we're on an upward trend.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."

    Terry Lucas, 09/26/22
