The key is we were able to run it early instead of getting stuffed.

White was decent. Mack was decent. Johnson looked good.

Not sold that this offense works against any decent team or even one that shows up intent on winning. The only way this offense looks like it really works is if the OL can be dominate. After 16 games now of Taggart ball I see no indication that there is anything about the offense meant to utilize the speed and athleticsm of that Florida athletes are known for.

Glad we got the win, but other than one drive the offense is brutally boring to watch.

Some aspects looked improved. Overall performance, not so much.

I agree with much of what you're saying ... the speed and entertaining part will come from the skill players, though, and my expectation hope is that as we get better at the offense, we'll begin to see more imaginative playcalling. We have to get the basics of the offense down, and maybe tonight we saw they are starting to get it. Receiver drops though set us back, as did the weather.

We're progressing, that much is clear, and that's really all we should be asking of the team and coaches.

I don't think there is any creativity to this offense. I think what you saw last night is what you get. Taggart came out and said we are a team where you know what we will run and still can't stop us. I believe from here on it is execution. What you see is what you get. That is the offense he runs. It is 4 yards at a time, wear the other defense out till the 4th quarter and play good defense.

The "knowing what's coming and not being able to stop it" strategy only works if you're bigger faster stronger and more talented than the other team which we were last night. We're sorely lacking on the oline to do this against more than half of our opponents.

If that's Willie's strategy I'll give him credit for going out and landing that last recruiting class, but this may take some time to build.

That is my point. The skill players can come in and make an impact sooner rather than later. The OL will take at least a couple of more years to get to the point where they can dominate anything better than a bad team.

The win is a win. We take it and move on.

isn't the "knowing what;'s coming offense" run by every program in the country? you absolutely know that oregon will run misdirection. You know texas tech will spread wide and pass the ball. you know auburn wants to run the ball.

last I checked you almost always have to be either bigger, stronger or faster than your opponent to win. yeah occasionally a less talented team might pull an upset but odds are against it.

we need talent to win no matter what offense we run. Is Taggart conservative? absolutley. will that lead to a lot of close games? without a doubt.

so you think he doesn't want talented skill players?

of course it will take time to build an offensive line.

our last 2 coaches relied on a QB that could scramble out of trouble. they didn't have effective blocking for the most part. Taggart doesn't have that luxury. Imagine what grothe or Daniels could have done behind a bad ass offensive line.

their offenses were no more creative. Hell they ran bubble screens constantly. the only reason their offenses were even remotely effective was because they had outstanding athletes that could also play QB.

how many times did we see Grothe or Daniels extend a play with their feet and then hit an open receiver down the field for a big gainer?

You hit it on the nail right there. Speed and athleticism got us a good football program under Leavitt. CWT's OL domination plan, we shall see...

I don't get it.

would you guys prefer not to have a big strong o-line?

you do realize that you can still have fast skill players right?

you can even run 25 bubble screens per game like we used to  with a good offensive line. they are not mutually exclusive.

Leavitt and Holtz had athletic QBs that could scramble away from trouble. That hid a lot of deficiencies on their o-lines.

Taggart wants a big strong offensive line that can run block.

Leavitt and Holtz didn't care so much because they threw 25 bubble screens per game. A big strong oline allows you to be more diversified. better run blockers and better on play action pass calls(they can hold their blocks longer). smaller linemen are supposed to allow them to block downfield on bubble screens.
