They were doing their due diligence on behalf of the school. It was up to the USF brass to make any decisions based on on the information presented. If it turns out to be something major they may have saved us in the long run. If it is something minor then it is the USF decision makers that are thin skinned idiots.Kind of looks like, from how this is playing out, that they DIDN'T do their diligence actually... but I guess that remains to be seen.According to the article, the search firm is the one that found the derogatory information. How is that not doing their due diligence? You are right - I guess my thought is that they should have vetted him at any point before this... before he was submitted for consideration, before he was formally interviewed, before USF decided on him, before the contract was signed... anything, really. If the only thing this company does is literally pass a list of names currently coaching basketball to the president or AD, I can do that for a lot cheaper. Nah. This is not a run of the mill headhunter firm that submits a list of names and gets a commission for a hired employee. This is a big time retained search firm. They get paid big bucks to find top people and do all the other stuff that goes along with the hire. Still surprised he wasn't vetted before submitted for an interview. They were retained far enough in advance.

It better well come out an be atrocious or USF administration went from being fools to idiots.

You can't possibly think that the $60,000 USF paid the firm would cover a $100 background check. Just think, that could be like $1,000 in background checks for each university hiring process. Should have earned it before they inked a deal, though. Search firm looks sloppy here.

While I agree to an extent, Tom Jurich makes a ton of money and is widely regarded as one of the best ADs in the country and he didn't know -- nor did Pitino. While I would have liked it sooner, with how fast these things move, I'm glad they found it before the process got any further. If it weren't for information leaking, we may not have even known about any of this.

I find that hard to believe. Maybe Pitino didn't think that was a big deal ...
