I'm glad we are using a search firm. It makes perfect business sense as that is what they do for a living. Plus it allows us to stay away from overvaluing some possible candidates that might have personal ties to our AD dept and give us an outsiders perspective. Obviously we have the final say as to who we hire.

At this point the last thing we should be worrying about is spending an extra 100k to hire the best possible candidate. Even if we have to pay them more than we'd prefer. If we win, it will pay for itself and then some. In addition to increasing our opportunities to be considered for realignment, which would increase our entire athletic budget by at least 30%.

So what?  Unless he's sneezing in the picture below, it looks like he's not our kind of guy either.

Search firm is not just to evade sunshine laws, although it does help. Basically they identify targets and particularly where the candidates are sitting head coaches the search firm acts as a central clearinghouse for communications. This would allow an interested coach to contact the search firm with out having to put it out publicly and risking issues with his existing employer and fanbase. This also allows a coach to allow his representatives to deal with negotiations while he stays out of it.

This then has the benefit of allowing everyone deniability in case the university ends up with its 8th choice.

Holy crap!!  You guys will complain about anything.  Companies of all sizes use search firms, recruiters, etc.  It allows candidates to be vetted and allows for the parties to be discrete about it.  If Harlan flew to Marquette or Wichita for example, or if candidates flew to Tampa, the media would be all over it.

Oh so it has NOTHING to do with the fact that the same firm endorsed Harlan...

I don't know if it does or doesn't and neither do you.  Few are complaining about which firm was hired, just that one was hired at all.

Sheriff, once again, Pearl was most likely in talks with Auburn before we even had an opening.  I can't see any realistic scenario where he would have dome here.

There really was no chance Pearl would come to USF. NO CHANCE AT ALL. I knew USF fans would start overreacting once Pearl went to Auburn. It is all too predictable. Cant wait to see USF fans go nuts when Pearl wins at Auburn because that is what will happen next. What those sames fans wont own up to is when he either leaves Auburn in the cold for a better job or get Auburn in trouble with NCAA. That will happend years down the road.  You cant change stripes on an Auburn Tiger.

Didn't UCLA just do the same search with the same firm.  Harlan should have all the names already.

ABSOLUTELY

this is insane too me

he must be getting a kick back

search firms also work both sides of the street---they steer schools to their own clients

why do we need an ad???
