I still say the naming right should have been sold.

At least we would have been able to bring in some kind of extra income until this conference is poached clean.

This name is horrible... its basically CUSA 2.0

 

What I find funny is that the new conference was told by us the fans, and the sports media that the American 12 was a stupid name and that we need a better name. Aresco admitted as much in a press release.

 

So these brilliant minds go back to the conference super secret underground war room and hammer out the American Athletic Conference... how in the hell is this any different from the American 12 Conference name?

 

This has to be the worst conference name... AAC sounds like the name that Kathy makes in the comic strip when she gets angry.

Its better than the first reported name and anything with Metro in it. And I don't want any more realignment. Realignment is how USF got in this mess and I see plenty of potential for it to get worse with more realignment.

Perception. We live in a media driven society, and sports more than anything else is tapped into that media. Just look at how ESPiN's fingerprints are on realignment. And in this media saturated culture, branding matters.  It has nothing to do directly with on field performance; it has to do with popularity and converting that popularity into $$$ (which may indirectly affect the product on the field in the future).

Look at the Rays. The re-branded themselves.  Or the B1G.

That's why I think its a big deal; I think its weak in terms of a brand.
