Sounds like it would absolutely rule us out for a lot of kids Wow, guess that settles that. That's not just any kid, Battie is arguably the best offensive player on our team, and if he isn't #1 he's definitely #2. Whether or not fans agree that Gruden's baggage is warranted or not, Battie's Dad statement merits huge consideration.
WoolyBully Posted November 8, 2022 Group: Bull Backers Topic Count: 194 Content Count: 6,784 Reputation: 863 Days Won: 3 Joined: 08/01/2000 Share Posted November 8, 2022 Gruden's baggage is such that he simply "isn't the right fit" for the program. Remember, this is a guy who doesn't "deal well" with rookies, and in college that's all you have. Gruden's forte is working with seasoned players operating at the highest level. Like it or not, there's an expectation that you're molding these players to be responsible men (now, let's take a look at this email business, shall we). Here, you have to get in the car, drive down to Lee County to sit with mom and dad, then head over to Indian River to sit with mom and dad, then swing back through Polk County to sit with yet another mom and dad. You're a salesman in addition to x-ing and o-ing. Although the title of "head football coach" exists in both the NFL & NCAA, the positions, and expectations, are indeed quite different. You can be a huge success in one and still be marginally qualified (and ultimately unsuccessful) in the other. Thank you for your interest, Mr. Gruden and we wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors. The receptionist can validate your parking.

Won a SB with Dungy's team and ran the franchise into the ground after that. If some unlucky pro team wants to bring him in, go right ahead. He would be a disaster in college and I would never want him at USF.

You think he doesn't know what's going on with all these candidates? Uhh not serious. I actually think he’s a pretty intelligent guy. I don’t think he would entertain the idea of hiring him. Not that we would actually hire him, but don't shut it down and let the grumors swirl! Edited November 9, 2022 by Bull Nut
