If McClain is running for his life again this season, I would be fine with that.

He had plenty of time to throw last year. He needs to connect. If he starts connecting then defenses wouldn't be so quick to always stack the box.

Now CJL is gone, we see him he did way more with less than these guys since. I have heard some things similar from other former players, but he had all of the former players ready to go battle and lay it all down on the field.

I honestly think the CJS haters should stop throwing CJL out there as some sort of a benchmark if they refuse to accept any "excuses" for CJS. Looking at Jim's Big East years in a vacuum, you'd be hard pressed to make a case that he shouldn't have been fired if you were looking to build a top notch football program.

Why would anyone look at his BEast years in a vacuum? If you look at how we did in the conference after he left there is a night and day difference, not to mention the comparison is between why can’t you win a BCS conference in your 13th year of existence and fourth advancement of the program vs why can’t you beat anyone ever.

Let's not forget the university started putting requirements on recruiting.  CJL took A LOT of marginal students - so much so the APR was falling and USF was on the verge of losing scholarships because of it.  In CJL's last year, USF created a committee to review the academics of every incoming recruit.  That alone would have changed things had CJL continued.

Now, it didn't help matters that CSH sucked balls at recruiting... so it's not entirely the fault of extra oversight on recruits.

“Sucked balls at recruiting” thanks Jim for going back in time and pulling out an all time great saying that is not used as often as it should be nowadays, made me laugh.😂

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
