lot of buzz this afternoon about the expansion to 12 playoff teams, with the top 6 ranked conference champs being auto bids. Honestly if this is the case the AAC seems a lot more attractive, win the conference and were in. And we don't have to get through a Oregon/Oklahoma/Clemson/Ohio St/Bama.

We would have to win the conference and make sure we were one of the six highest rated conference champs.  Had this format been around last season, Cincinnati and Coastal Carolina would have been in and Oregon would have been out.

Does the new playoff format mark the end of independents. I would think the likes of BYU and Army would be more open to conferences affiliation with an actual path to the CFP.

Also does ND finally make the move to the Big 10 being a more geographic and cultural fit then the ACC, then who else does the big 10 grab up to even the number, who does the ACC grab up to replace ND. Could be the start of a lot of dominos falling

It certainly puts pressure on them. The question they have to answer is: can we finish in the top 6? For ND the answer is yes but they will not get a first round bye even if they finish number one. But they do get time off before the playoff starts because they don’t have a conference championship. My bet is that they stay as an independent and see how it goes first. In terms of BYU, they still have the stigma of not being a P5 while their rival Utah has that distinction. But with likelihood that power five and group of five distinctions will now be removed this may be less of an issue. But there would probably be a greater likelihood they would join the MWC than the AAC due to travel cost...just my opinion.

The SEC would become a 16-team superconference if it added two of college sports' top programs

So we'll merge the Big 12 remnants with The American and come up with what?  The Big American Bakers Dozen?

Well ****…they are going for $. Once the playoffs went to 12 (or will be) they were not worried about the easy track they had to the playoffs from the Big12 perspective.

According to an article I read Oklahoma State has a deal that if Oklahoma leaves they must bring Oklahoma State with them according to state legislature. As far as Texas goes, Texas A&M will do everything they can to block Texas.

Big 12 has media rights for their games until 2025 from the grant of rights contract they signed.
