I liked Williams. This will hurt a little more than the seniors transferring out.

Lots of schools have players in the transfer portal so this isn't unique to us. Assuming we don't have anyone else transfer the 2 and 3 are positions he can likely promise lots of playing time, although would expect Chapin to get more time next season if he can solve his free throw issues.

Assuming Yetna heads back to France, a starting 5 of Castaneda, Murphy (two PGs), Chaplin, Tchewa and Durr (Twin Towers) could cause some match up problems. If Yetna returns the front lines remains deep and we just need to replace the shooters.

However, many of the players you have identified have under performed or are way inconsistent. In other words the jury is still out if they are any good. Just because a player is coming back does not automatically mean we are in a good position. If BG can’t recruit a difference maker from the portal then we are looking at a .500 level team. Good, but not top five in the top conference.

Well, since its now been 6 days since our season ended and Gregory has not been fired, I am turning the page on that. Now I am just thinking through who we have coming back and how that plays, and what we may need to find in the portal:

#1 - we need a facilitator - Castaneda could be the guy but we need Murphy to be that guy, however Gregory needs to ensure against that by bringing in a facilitator. Jamari Wheeler just landed into the portal yesterday and should be the top realistic target (from Florida, starting senior PG in the portal from Penn State with a near 2-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio); Antonio Daye from FIU could be a fall back option - he can facilitate and also score, but TO's are a huge area of opportunity

#2 - we need guys with range - This should open up the floor and make teams pay for sagging on our bigs and the multitude of drives to the basket that we love; Anderson could have bee that guy but defensively he was a liability; Not alot of realistic options for USF as of now in the portal but Patrick Kelly, also from Penn State, could be a low-risk option here as he is from Bradenton/IMG and has range to spare, but the drawback was he didn't see much time on the court as a freshman and would worry about this being Anderson 2.0

#3 - we could use some front court depth  - ist not a top priority but f we lose Yetna we will be tested here, but can run with Oduro here or look to add depth from the portal

So half a century later we need what we have always needed: real recruiting, solid coaching and players.  Got it.

Perhaps we should contact Coach Pete Bell.

Out of the three transfers we know of so far this one stings a bit. Loved DC, but I think we saw his ceiling this season. JB was our best, consistent outside shooter. Best of luck!

Curious to see what happens with Zac Dawson and Lex Yetna now. I think we could see ourselves with five new schollies available before all is said and done.

Bummed at Brown now I'm more ticked about Williams. Grad transfers are a high % to wander off somewhere else. Really liked the play of Williams and Brown and prospects for next year. Yetna was very good his first year but possibly he is one of those guys who dont come back to old form after an injury?? He had little or no impact this year-none at all last year, thats 2 years of no productivity so....Hopefully, there isn't some mass exodus/discontent that will throw us back to restart yet again. Somehow...this team has to build a score, make 3's, hit FT and be able to sustain and finish the game. Is it the players talent? Coaching hit it's peak? Program suxs so players go elsewhere? Tiring....

Hearing Castaneda will announce he is entering the portal as well, and he may not be the last one.

Brown and Collins have played here for 4 years. Expecting them here next season was never a sound strategy

Would love to get some insight into their decisions to enter the portal. The team looked lost and disjointed at times after the Covid break. It would be a potentially disappointing end to CBG's reclamation project.
