We are not good at being consistently good on defense.

We have a lot of guys who're starting regularly for the first time. It's a young unit but they are resilient.  I'm not so worried about those couple of junk TDs at the end.  A lot of guys got to see extended time who normally don't, and that's a good thing.

Majority of yards came on a few big runs. Big runs that will not happen against better teams.

They have given up a lot on the ground this year, I think around 285 prior to USF with a high being nearly 400 to Ohio.  We ended up with 365.

Good news was that we went with a game plan tailored to their weaknesses and won. If the D can continue to get TOs like today, they can bend like today. My biggest concern going into the conference stretch is the O line. If they improve I think we'll be fine.

I get it, but only 1 of those teams is decent.

who is the one?

Our defense under CCS has given up a ton of yards and points to inferior teams. Is anyone else worried about this? I thought things would be better with CCS as our coach.

Giving up 486 yards and 42 points to UMass is a discrace.

it is troubling but they are young

and athletic

we will have problems with better teams

I think Georgia Tech was the best team we have played. I’m not saying they are amazing, but they’d win 8 plus games in the AAC.

Can't say I felt warm and fuzzy with that defensive performance after two weeks to prepare.  Hope we tackle better in conference.

I’m ok with the D as long as they keep holding the opponent to less points than we score.

Would love to hear Stongs take on the coaches. Doesn’t seem like they have prepared them to play. We let them stay in this game way too long. I get that everyone will give their best but our O line has been bad.

I'm sorry but there is no excuse for the way this team shows up to games disinterested. I get it that they're young but, that's no excuse. If you're not into playing the games then don't suit up. I'd rather watch a not so athletic kids who's giving it his all rather then a gifted athlete just go through the motions. I want to see some fire in their eyes, veins popping and teeth grinding. I want to see emotion. I want the other team to see true distain and a willingness to crush them in my teams eyes.

Is that too much to ask for once a week, 13-15 times a year?

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
