Just wondering why any schools have an OCS?

I've never really wondered ..... most are because of necessity.

And alas we have hit the obligatory OCS discussion marking a certain near conclusion to our offseason.

Hey I'm wondering how many of these programs that they are always comparing our attendance to have their students traveling 10 miles from campus to attend games . I honestly believe when the OCS is built the attendance will explode. Also curious what other revenue can be generated in the off season with this facility.....not sure it's feasible but I will pay twice as much for a seat in a domed stadium.

I honestly like the idea of building a basic OCS and upgrading it over time.  I think that's the 'right way'.  The cost of steel has gone up 50% in the last 10 years.  I'm not sure what the future holds but it makes sense to invest while you can.  I think the other guys used their endowment money to build theirs, no debt costs for them I don't think.

I thought Houston did a nice job on their metal stadium a few years back.

The place might not be ours, but I'd rather lease a benz than own a rusted out corolla with the hope of rebuilding it piece by piece. Also, RJS is what we deserve especially since majority of the fanbase and local population has not proven its loyalty (financially or through attendance.)

Fundraising for a football only facility makes the most sense because it presents a realistic (hell, maybe even ambitious) goal given our lack of donor support. Let's build that, crush recruiting, put together a longer string of consecutive 9+ win seasons, and ya know.... win a couple conference championships (maybe? possibly? if thats not too much to ask??) and then see where the donor interest/fan support gets to after 3-4 years. Also, would like to see if the hype around the AD's fundraising skills comes to fruition before diving into something that could potentially add a significant amount of debt to the university's balance sheet.

Not having an OCS right now or even 5 years from now is fine - with the limited resources we have at our disposal we have to focus on projects that will give us a larger marginal return for our investment and right now that is an IPF and football only facility.

Not necessarily.  You don't know what the debt service on the stadium would be.

I wonder if that is in the 171 page report........

According to Joey's numbers we are paying 2M and up in rent each year ($400K per game x 5 or more games).  Based on your math and Joey's report on first year earnings, we'd be less than a million upside down.  What am I missing?  We'd be better off with the OCS assuming your and Joey's numbers are correct?

Those numbers may be correct but not complete.

According to the report, to maintain a debit service coverage of 1.65 we could afford about $100 million in bonds. At 4.5% for 30 years, that's an annual debt service payment of $6.1 million.
