As for the "tard" reference to my school, I haven't heard that one, but I do appreciate it not being said to my face.

Pretty sure anyone using that would never have the balls to say it to any of you in person.... like most Internet tough guys.

Thanks for sharing your TT perspective. You already witnessed how close USF was to beating UCF. We also had UH 4th & 24 to close out that game, but USF failed to knock down the pass that converted for a UH first down. That enabled UH to ultimately score the winning TD with seconds remaining. My point is that USF is pretty much inches away from being anywhere from 10-1 to 12-0 (and in the Peach Bowl). Wasn't sure how familiar you are with our pain this year, but that's why many USF fans also feel disappointed having to play TT in Birmingham. But I look forward to USF beating TT anyway. 😉

I thought I'd chime in to give you Bulls some perspective from an actual level headed Raider. Additionally, head to StakingthePlains.com or reddit.com/cfb/ to interact with Red Raiders who are closer to the mean of sensible fan bases.

From what I've gathered at those mentioned forums is that we:

-are thankful to be in any bowl game but we recognize this one does kinda stink

-that USF is going to be a challenge but we favor ourselves slightly because of bias

A number of us watched USF play their last game. What an epic game! We saw two dynamic teams play. There are a bunch of athletes on your team. Kinda wish you guys and Houston joined the Big 12.

I haven't dove down on the team stats yet, I'm waiting for Staking the Plains to do theirs, but I'm imaging stats wise our two teams will be closer than you think.

The past 17 years are divided in half, one being the Leach years and the other being post Leach years. Leach years we beat OU every other year, beat A&M 67% of the time, and had a top 5 offense most years with a middle of the road defense.

Post Leach has been sad times, constantly rebuilding. One thing that never really changed was a great offense. This is the first year I can remember where it seems we don't score at will, but all years prior high scoring was the norm.  However the offense is probably better than most. Young oline, struggling run game, yet we have receivers that any team would want. The receivers are fantastic. I think you'll also find that there are two or three games we could have won if we had a kicker who could make a field goal.

The defense post Leach has been bottom of the barrel. Didn't help that we kept losing our defense coordinators year after year.  Something like 6-7 DC have come through in the past 8 years. The current one has reached a milestone bc he has been around our team going 3 years, it Houston's old coach. It's starting to show as we are no longer bottom of the barrel defense but middle of the pack maybe slightly less. Nonetheless the D has kept us in games. Lots of turnovers have been created this year. The defense is on the ups.

If we go by # of wins, USF has the advantage. If you go by quality wins Tech has the advantage. Yet I don't think either of us have any impressive wins. Maybe Tech winning on the road against UH, but I do realize UH was a different team.

Thanks, for your posting here.

Last year our offense was better under Taggart. but our defense was worse.

Taggart left for Oregon and we brought in Charlie Strong.

Although we lost two dynamic offensive players to the NFL, RB Marlon Mack and WR Rodney Adams, we brought back just about everybody else.

As a result, we were the preseason favorite to win the conference and go undefeated.

We ended up with a very easy schedule, because Michigan state bought out their return game in Tampa and Wisconsin moved their game to 2019.

With a new coaching staff, it takes some time for  adjusting.

Taggart would try to run up the score on everyone.

Strong seems to be content with just winning.

Strong wants us to be a power running team which we are really not best suited.

So, most of us are disappointed that we didn't continue to employ the gulf coast offense that we ran under Taggart.

In spite of that, we still put up decent offensive numbers and should have gone undefeated, because our defense was much better.

We lost to Houston in the last minute because they converted a 4th down and 24 yard miracle pass. All our defenders had to do was to knock down the ball and the game would be over. We would have been 10-0 playing 10-0 @UCF.

We finally opened up the playbook more @UCF, in order to keep up with them, and with the score tied at 42 with about one minute left in the game they returned a kickoff 95 yards for a TD. We still had a chance to win but a receiver fumbled a pass and we lost.

Special teams have been a problem for us all year. We are also one of the most penalized teams in the nation. Both of those things proved costly in the UCF game and ended our chance to play Memphis for the conference championship.

That is how and why we went 9-2 having no good wins to show.

So, this bowl is our final opportunity to make a disappointing season look somewhat better.

Last year, we played in the same Bowl game against South Carolina. We had a big lead on them, but they came back to tie the game in regulation and we eventually won in OT.

I think this will also be a very competitive game, assuming both teams show up to play.

I know that our senior laden team will be hungry to go out on a winning note and finish still ranked in the other AP and Coaches Polls.

Since most players on of our team went there just last year, they should be able to just focus on the game and not be distracted by other things associated with bowl games. That might be somewhat to our advantage.

The dude who first mentioned that is a USF guy, with a dual homer-like allegiance to Texas A&M.

I went to TT board and there wasnt much trash talking. The fans just seem pretty worn out about their team's current status. Whats crazy is the vibe feels the same as on this board. One would think we have a losing record by all of the negativity on this board.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
