FWIW, he was apparently on our short list when we hired CCS. FSU's Lawrence Dawsey a candidate for USF's head coach opening? They thought it was the funniest thing in the world when he was a supposed candidate for our job last year. He’s almost certainly out of a job their after next week. That's their legacy, and it that goes back to Steve Spurrier. That means an elite quarterback. That means points. While that might be a truism for the Gators, it's even more necessary for the Bulls. (1) we're G5 and style points matter, and (2) there's a LOT more other things to do in Tampa than Gainesville. Competition for the entertainment dollar is tougher. Yup. College football is an entertainment offering for our disposable income. There is no moral imperative to show up and watch it if it does not entertain. Especially with the demographic tidal wave happening where the younger generation just isn't into sports as much.

I was sad to see him leave USF. He's 50 years old with enough experience now to be considered for a head coaching position. Strong isn't leaving. 2. King is probably ready to be a HC. He needs a seasoned OC and a good DC.

Gilbert has a decent track record and if the conservatism is due to Strong, and Gilbert as a head coach would be a little more diverse in he offense, I think it could be a good fit for USF. I know Gilbert is the receipient of a lot of negativity on this board, but I don't know how much of the offense is Strong directing things or Gilbert. I think Gilbert seems like a pretty good coach. His offenses do move fast and get a lot of yards. How much is Charlie making calls and how much is Gilbert? I have a hard time believing strong won’t have P5 options.

Next year or the year after he would have much better options.

He's 56, he doesn't really have to worry about that sort of thing. He is gone this year. The writing has been on the wall for some time now. As it's been mentioned a couple times, this is definitely not the end goal for Strong. Gilbert could end up as a HC to a G5 school once the dominoes fall and the same goes for BJM. Out of the 3, I would more upset about BJM leaving as he has had the biggest impact on our team this season. Why BJM is not a finalist for the Broyles Award makes zero sense to me.
