NBA is the second most popular professional sport throughout the world.

Professional soccer being the most.

Pretty sure they overpaid for a LOT of stuff.  Just overpaying for NFL wouldn't cause the free fall that organization has been in the last few years.

This, particularly the Longhorn Network. The money they saved from the yesterday's massive fire storm is a drop in bucket. This is clearly a message to the Disney shareholders asking them to hang in there. ESPN will have to evolve, if they want to keep profitable. USF can't afford to wait for ESPN to get in gear, we've got to work on getting our own content distributed digitally some way, some how.

Assuming Fox has their stuff together they should look at this as an opportunity to get some good talent. Relatively speaking Fox is the next best equipped to compete with ESPN. For some reason they have not been able to put it together.

Doug Woodard may have been right about all the conference realignment due to TV contracts may turn out to bite the networks in the behind.

No. It's going to bite those without contracts in the behind. The next AAC contract is going to be negotiated next year, and it's not going to be pretty in this cost cutting world.

All major sports networks are in a crunch after losing millions of subscriber fees.

Based on...?

The NBA isn't even the the second most popular league in the country. If you're saying basketball the sport is the second most popular in the world, different story. Soccer is undisputedly #1, everything after that depends on if you're measuring money, attendance, TV viewers, leagues sizes, etc.
