Giving up 20 points or less should be his only goal. 20 being for good teams.

Hopefully our defense will get more 3 and outs... giving them more time to rest.  I'm looking forward to hopefully having a much more aggressive defense.

He said during the intro press conference that the days of holding teams to 17 points are gone.  That along with the slow down on offense = ruh roh.

Tell that to Temple. They held 7 teams to 13 or less points this year.

When Strong came to Texas, he first brought S Watson over to run the offense, which was a ball control offense, and was designed to help "protect" his defense.

After his first year in the Big 12, he found out he had better score points and not worry so much about playing keep away.

2015 saw the worst defense in the History of the program, while, playing a very slow offense. (Offense was an abomination, including Watson being fired after the first game)

He hired Gilbert to bring in the Bear Raid offense, which was designed to move fast. His first half of the year saw even worse defensive numbers, and at that time, he fired his longtime sidekick Bedford and took over the defense himself. He told the offense to take more time calling plays and the defense got a little better under his guidance, with slower paced offense on the other side.

He will insist that the offense not run tempo. He wants an offense that gives his defense time to rest.

Arrghhh! Does this not sound like defeatist attitude already?  Hey Bulls, plan to continue giving up lots of points and also expect your offense to slow down so they can score less points. This sounds like another Holtz strategy. I like the hire but he is saying some things that has me worried. Howeved if he did not make it at least he can recruit and wont leave the cupboard bare.

O's job is to score.

D's job is to give the ball to the O

If O does it's job "too fast", D needs to be just as fast in getting it back!

SMH at the thought of scoring "too fast"

Where is everybody who saw our overmatched defense get smacked around against FSU, Temple, and have "so so" games against almost every AAC teams?

This is garbage.  He needs to change his tune.  Bulls fans DO NOT WANT a slow down offense.  We want to score 45-50 points a game.  If we give up 30 in the process, so be it.

Then we probably should have hired Kiffin. I don't think the that slowing down on offense a bit means we can't score 45 a game either. He had the #23 total offense year at Texas while we had the #13 total offense per ESPN.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
