USF is typically mentioned as the fifth team.

Play in someone else's stadium, miles away from the campus. We average around 20,000/game. Did CWT really direct the turn around this year? I sure hope you guys are correct when you say it's all about location. 1

Houston, Cincinnati, Memphis and UCF are among the most often mentioned Big 12 targets. Tulsa, SMU and Tulane would love to be in the conversation. It could argued that any team in the AAC would jump quickly if it was approached by the Big 12. That would include such geographical stretches such as Connecticut, East Carolina and USF. So this person concluded USF is a geographical stretch but UCF isn't? Not the brightest bulb in the pack.

The Big 12 hired a couple firms to help them with the TV network and expansion. The first firm is Navigate Research. On their blog in January in a post called "Why Do Conferences Expand?" The have a bullet point: Quote 5. Recruiting - Many conferences sees schools as a favorable place to expand because of recruiting access. Think about USF going to the BIG EAST over a decade ago. That now seems to purely have been a recruiting play with the BIG EAST attempting to gain a footprint in Florida, a high school football recruiting stronghold. http://www.navigateresearch.com/navigate-research-blog/why-do-conferences-expand The second company is Bevilacqua Helfant Ventures. If you remember back a few years ago they were hired by the Big East to negotiate their TV contract. So both companies at least have good knowledge of USF. http://thisisuconncountry.com/2016/02/big-12-has-hired-two-firms-to-develop-conference-tv-network-vet-expansion-candidates/

Shouldn't that have been "retain a footprint in Florida"?

I'm not sure that matters when flying from Dallas, or Austin. It may matter for WVU but the extra 90ish miles shouldn't be make or break.
