If you had asked me 7,6, even 3 years ago, I'd have said 50-60k and been completely validated in saying so.

Today I'd say 40 to 50k and just as valid, factoring in declining football attendance and taking into account our potential realignment or lack thereof.

Here are some interesting concepts for reference:

http://www.astroturf.com/alabama-state-to-debut-new-astroturf-field/

FCS Alabama State (although for how much longer who knows) built a better looking stadium than UCF in everything except capacity for $62 million. I think we could probably recreate this for 40k with a nice berm for another possible 5-7k for less than $100m.

Husky Stadium in Washington just underwent a massive renovation and is one of the mentalest environments to play in if you're an opponent.

(we could mimic this at maybe 2/3 scale and get the same acoustics for competitive advantage)

Speaking of loud:

autzen-stadium-oregon-ducks-spotlight.jp

Baylor's McLane stadium is always a point of discussion in these threads:

Other obviously high D1-caliber stadiums without the unnecessary capacity overreaches:

TCU's OCS

Houston's OCS (Yes please. We can do this and it would be responsibly priced and sized. Break ground now)

Cincinnati's (check the renderings)

Honorable mentions (but maybe beyond us at this point)

PJCS (UL)

TCF Bank Stadium (Minnesota)

PJCS (UL)

TCF Bank Stadium (Minnesota)

Remember, Papa John Stadium was a 42,000 seat stadium from 1998 to the summer of 2010.

UL added a 13,000 seat expansion in 2010, which included a new East Side Upper Deck

Some schools, even P5 schools, have renovated or built stadiums that were at or even lower seating capacity than their old ones like:

Stanford: Old 85,000 seats, New 50,000 seats

Minnesota: Old off-campus NFL Stadium 64,000 seats, New: 52,000

Baylor: Old off-campus college stadium 50,000 seats, New on-campus stadium 45,000 seats

TCU spent $164 Million renovating their very old 44,500 seat stadium...and the new configuration seats basically the same.

The Falcons are building a new stadium in Atlanta and just announced PSL fees. And the long time season holders are in an uproar. 4 lower level seat PSL run like $180k plus you have to still buy the tickets.one time fee but wow.

What's this have to do with a college ocs?

Because it clearly shows we shouldn't build one.

Almost half the NFL stadiums have them. And it actually started in the 80s at Stanford to fund their tennis stadium. This being the thread on the OCS stadium which has no plans to be built, it may be an issue when or if that date comes. The main thing was the long time season ticket holders for the Falcons, going back decades, are just livid. No way they can afford to go to games anymore. I don't know how big the block of non-season ticket seats is going to be but it sounds like the majority of the stadium will have a massive one time PSL fee. Colleges have done similar things in the past but the funds went into a tax deductible scholarship fund. Who knows what the future holds.

I live in atlanta and havent heard any crying about it. Some people are beotching about the Braves new stadium but that's just because it's moving locations 20 miles north and the people south of the city will have to drive farther.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."

    Terry Lucas, 09/26/22

“This is not a broken football program by any means. It just needs to be united, to get everybody on the same page, share that same vision, and really to have that standard - best is the standard.”
