So, which is the worse offense? Lying about a degree or lying about a BBQ?

:roflmao:

He lied on his resume so he gets the contract pulled. I get that. So on to the next one.

However I don't think a college degree is necessary to coach basketball.

+1

So when he graduates students out if the program, they'll be more educated than him? Doesn't make sense.

We botched this, but it's not as crazy as it could have been. Now we watch the spin come...no way ESPN lets UL and UK look stupid instead of us.

Yeah, but Betty Castor did not have a PhD, and she became president of USF.  A lot of hay was made about her lack of a PhD, but she was a very effective president at USF.

Rules are made to be bent, especially something as pathetic as no degree.  He has the work experience that makes up for the lack of degree.  Besides, his job title was BB coach, not professor or teaching assistant.

She didn't lie about having a PhD.  I think that is the problem here.  He might be a great coach but the degree is a requirement and he lied about it.

Not debating the legitimacy of the whole fiasco, but didn't we also say that Leavitt was fired not because of the supposed infraction but his dishonesty in the investigation process? (Again, not saying it was legit or not, but just stating the "official story"). USF really couldn't say that it's okay to be dishonest when we want to hire you, but it's not okay as an employee.

Say, do you need a degree to coach HS sports? I always thought you had to be a teacher to do that. But I guess Chucky doesn't have one. Is that up to each school or something?

Interesting. Is Chucky a paid employee or does he just coach?  I know you can coach and be part of high school athletics but I dont know if you can be head coach.

I would think it is whatever is in the job description of the position.

I think one point here is that since it is a job requirement at a public institution, he never would have been a candidate for the position in the first place.

And who knows what the hold up is for him getting that degree. Maybe he completed all his course work. Schools do some silly things to not confer those pieces of paper.

Took me an extra semester because of Bull crap at USF. (Bad pun definitely intended.)

I completely understand. Hopefully, for his sake, it's something minor holding him up.

Maybe he just didn't complete his classes.  Maybe he didn't go to class.  Just a spiffball, but I'm sure it's very far out of the realm of possibility.

If he just owes money for parking tickets I would agree.  If he is a couple of classes short then he blew it big time.

I question his intelligence if he allowed parking tickets to interfere with his receipt of a college diploma.

I said last night that this better be a darn good reason.

I'm still not happy, but I can accept USF's reasoning. Don't get me wrong, this one of those cases where I might accept a little fudging (seeing as Masiello hasn't had problems at Louisville and Manhattan before), but the question has to be raised-what else would Masiello have been hiding if he hired him? What if we decided to ignore it and later on found out that he has a predilection for dressing as a clown late at night and trying to scare children in their beds? That's the point of a background check-to make sure we don't have a black mark on our program three years down the road because Masiello said or did something that didn't corroborate with what he told us.

I can agree with this in its entirety.

Great teaching experience for your kids;

A) Lying will cause you to lose out on great opportunities...

B) Get your degree - You'll make a whole lot more money sooner.
