Greg Auman â€@gregauman

Three USF football staffers -- Carl Franks, Rich Rachel, Pat Burnham -- learned today they will not be retained. All came in under Leavitt.

Greg Auman â€@gregauman

USF football coach Willie Taggart has added his WKU director of football operations, Sharrod Everett, to Bulls staff in same role.

Sucks. Volunteered under Pat Burnham and met Carl Franks a few times. All good guys. Best of luck to them all.

Bummer about Franks. I've always like the guy even though I've never met him. Seemed like a good fit in that position.

Amato isn't a sexy hire, but he did well with the talent at NC State and put a few guys in the NFL - I know we faced Mario Williams or whomever when they shut us out in 2006 muffler bowl.

I can't really judge his one year at Akron because they've been 1-11 for the past three seasons basically. Had he had 2 years, there would have at least been a year to improve the talent he did have to work with, but Akron is a cellar MAC squad who hasn't won more than 7 games in a season since 1992, and has only won 7 games four times since then. One bowl game in 2005 that they lost, so I'm willing to look past Amato's quick stint at Akron if he comes here.

I agree with a clean house. This guy knows what he is doing and doesnt need old influence. I'll take amato just because just about anyone with a pulse is going to be more instructive and produce a better defense than cosh.

+1

Somewhat surprised that people are only just now getting interviewed for DC (as far as has been disclosed publicly).

This is my opinion as well

I mean, for judging him on his only year at Akron, look at Taggart. In his first year, he only won 2 games. Even though you can point out that's an improvement from the previous win-less year, I think we would all be in agreement that it would be a horrible stat if that was our only year to judge.

If you come in taking over for a team that has been a continuous doormat, you need more than 1 year to be able to turn things around. Especially in a conference that really doesn't get much respect (so it makes it harder to recruit players to come to you)

I think Woodie is LB or DL coach. New DC will have input with other defensive assistants.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
