Grown adults need motivation. Motivate them by saying step up or pay for your own degree or let someone do it. Its simple. Treat it like a job.

********. When my boss wants to motivate me he plays a lot of rap music and tells me the company no longer has any rules.

No I don't.  I see this:

There are two different ways to define parity in the sports world. The first is to define parity as an environment in which any team can expect, at any point in time, beat any other given team. The second is to define parity as an environment in which it is possible for any team to win a championship.

apparently you didn't read very far because I quoted and bolded exactly that.

Do you suggest I take a little personal responsibility and not rely on someone else to motivate me to do my job?

There is only one motivating factor in football. You play hard or you get replaced by somebody better. Sometimes you can play hard and still get replaced. either way, that is the only motivator for football that counts. If that doesn't motivate the player then you replace them.  A bunch of cool speeches is nice, but in the end, the players have to be able to motivate themselves.

better tell all those great motivators they are wasting their time.

hell fortune 500 companies pay 100's of thousands every year for motivational speakers to give talks to their sales force
