I would have like to seen the play we used to get the 1st down to end the game against Tulsa used there, a jet sweep option.  If you're in man to man, to hand it to the WR, otherwise it's a normal read option (with a pass option).

A little miss direction would of been nice.

That goes completely against "who we are," according to our coaches.  We run right at the other team, even when the box is completely full.

Even when we scored the TD a couple of people around me said "still the wrong call". I agreed.

On those 3 drives if we make the FG, we have 9 points... instead we got 1 TD... 7...

Only thing I'll knock the coaches for in that game is the weak approach at the end of the last drive where we kicked the FG.  That, and CCS's comments about taking what the defense was giving them, when the run was absolutely taken away from them ALL GAME LONG.

It's football 101 man. When they take the run away all that's left is the run!

Here's the thing.  Had he called for a pass and it went incomplete and stopped the clock, or, God forbid got intercepted, so many on here would be ******** at him for that.

100% dead on from a micro standpoint. Point being, more aggressive play calling earlier in the game could've prevented being in that situation.

Also, running the ball doesn't mean you have to lose all the window dressing and misdirection that causes false steps and open holes. That's my problem

First of all, it's a sarcastic comment that actually rings a bit true.  Seems like that's the mentality of our coaches.

Second, a pass was obviously the wrong move at that point, but the clock should have been milked more, and why not try to do something where the drive could be extended, keeping the ball out of Houston's hands?  At least make an attempt there, stay in bounds, if unsuccessful, run the clock all the way down, call a timeout and kick a field goal.

Kind of a no-brainer there, but it's total lack of awareness on both QF AND the coaches to not milk that clock.

I agree on the time management part of it.  Personally, I would have run the play clock to one second and taken a time-out there.  IIRC, we still would have had enough time to run a play and get the FG team out there.  Or at worst, call a pass after the TO and if it's not obviously there either run to the middle or throw it out of the end zone.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
