If the brass was concerned about his recruiting, why give him an extension?

The idiocy of Woolard et al during the Holtz New Era gives me a **** headache.

Guilt from tying his hands further?

Sorry for the trip post, but as an answer to the question I posed above, please don't say anything about Holtz being mentioned as a candidate at another school, like Arkansas.  Coming off a 5-7 season after consistently winning 8-9 games for years with Leavitt, that's BS.

Even a heavy hitter donor didn't have a problem with the extension under the circumstances that shall go nameless ... and no, I don't have a link handy but I think we all remember the email that was made public during Skip's last year.

He obviously believed that Skip was in demand.  I didn't.

Skip was indeed a bad recruiter here and not because of the sling and shoot incident. Part of it was his fault and part of it was imposed on him by the administration. Skip wasn't in over his head but he was definitely sold a different bill of goods than what he walked into. Skip had no idea what he was really walking into and by the summer of his last season had all but checked out in a lot of ways....

Checked out after signing an extension a few months earlier?

Nice.

I don't know how true that is, but that speaks a few volumes if it is.

Don't know about the checking out part but I had also heard that the playing field had changed some in regard to recruiting ...

The rumor I always heard was that he was specifically told academics (APR) were a priority in recruiting and he had to pass on some athletes USF would have gotten in the past. Then when the W/L column took a hit, his recruiting was called into question.

So the Doug and Judy meddling I spoke of four years ago? The hugs not wins program? Smiles were job one. It's the reason we became a joke. Killed the golden goose and tried to deflect by rebuilding into a soft country club atmosphere with Vero and popcorn parties. So glad it's changing back.
