Simple CWT & Co. cannot evaluate QB's.

2 years now and he's still flopping around. I thought that was what last years tape and the spring practice was for, but even in the spring he couldn't name the starting QB until the week or so before the first game.  Watch ALL the QB's with an open mindset and play the best one.  To be real, you don't think we could watch say a few weeks of practice and see who clearly is the best QB....then play him and if it's obvious he doesn't translate practice into game time then move on.  This isn't a poker match.

Besides a handful of players (and maybe the coaches) we lack both physical and mental toughness.

THIS /\

Taggart can't motivate this team and they don't have the guts to do it themselves.

Probably most college kids don't have the guts to do it themselves.  That's why a relatively few college football players ever make it to the NFL, and even fewer than that have an extended stay there.

Most college athletes need an external form of motivation.  I'm not saying CWT needs to become a rah, rah guy but he needs to figure out something that works.  This whole #dosomething business seems to be #doingnothing.

I still think White has all the physical tools to be really good for us, but for the life of me, I just can't figure out why he seems to have a hard time getting himself into the game mentally.

You're a starting D1 college football QB, on scholarship at a large university.  I wish I had the natural talent he has, because when I played sports, I was one competitive SOB.

Agree with TallyBull that if CWT is looking for a competitor, that speaks volumes as to the QB's mental makeup.  Is it even possible for him to acquire the mental toughness at this stage for him to be successful?

Nope, you either have it or you don't. You don't just become competitive over night this late in the game. White doesn't have that aggressive competitive gene. He isn't the guy.

I disagree here... it is possible to gain the mental toughness -- but it takes a supporting cast that White doesn't have, especially a running game that can help take some of the pressure off his shoulders.

Disagree, too. If he doesn't have some type of competitive gene, he comes and craps the bed in the 2nd half of Tulsa. He may or may not be the guy but I don't think it will be for lack of competitveness.

Then most college kids should stay off the field.

And the "right parts" that we are missing are mainly in the o-line.

We don't have a running game because the holes aren't there - the yards Mack has made have mainly been on his own.

The passing game is poor because White is not composed under pressure, and he's always under pressure because the line's not protecting him.

Who's the O-line coach and why is he so bad?

I don't get this thought process at all.  Sure White has gotten pressure at times, and Bench the few times he's been in there.

But for the most part they have plenty of time to get their throws off.  White does not have to run for his life on every play.  His problem is that he is indecisive.  We may not have the best OLine in the nation, but I think the pass protection has at least been average and probably is above average.  The Cincy QB's were pressured more than ours were on Friday.

It's a 3 man race, Flowers is in it as well.

Eh?

University of South Florida coach Willie Taggart said Monday he won’t immediately name a starting quarterback for Saturday afternoon’s home game against the Houston Cougars, choosing to let sophomore Mike White and junior Steven Bench compete throughout the week of practice before making his decision.

Taggart said today Flowers will compete for the job. I think realistically he will not grasp the whole play book in half a week.
