Buzz also being considered by Auburn:

Pearl, the hottest name floating in coaching circles and around the Auburn fan base, has said he'd be willing to listen to Auburn and dodged a question on WJOX Friday about whether he's been contacted by the school.

Another name in the mix is Marquette's Buzz Williams, who has been mentioned as a potential target for the job in coaching circles, according to a source. Williams, whose streak of five NCAA Tournament appearances will end this year as the 17-15 Golden Eagles hope for an NIT berth, could be expensive after he made $1,888,891, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, and another $1 million payable to Team Buzz Williams LP, of which Williams is a partner, in 2012, the last year for which tax records have been released.

Virgina Tech fired their HC after just 2 years. So now they are in the coaching search party as well. USF, Auburn, and VT in that order are the best basketball jobs available right now. If USF wants a big name they will have to open up the checkbook some because Auburn and VT most certainly will. I can't imagine VT letting their HC go that quickly without having a plan to jump on one of the top available coach. If he and his agent are smart, Pearl being the best name out there will play this to get the best deal.

Same goes for Williams because Auburn and VT can and will pay his ass a high salary. They can make it so he continues to bank major cash like at Marquette.

I don't think USF can afford 3M like major P5 conference schools can

With Pearl out, I would be happy with Buzz Williams.

According to the USA today chart, which admits it's not all encompassing, Williams only made 1.1 million at Marquette in 2013.  That JSOnline article cites him at 1.8 million for 2013 and an additional 1 million in professional services.

I have a hard time believing USF would (not could) snatch a coach who makes near 3 million a year.  I could fathom USF making a strong push and pay close to 2 million, but 3+ just seems wildly out of reach to me.  Maybe there's something happening at Marquette with the outbound AD that would restructure his professional services contract and he could be semi-attainable.

That said, I don't see it as realistic, but if Harlan pulls something like this it would certainly open eyes.

We have enough of our own fans being delusional without you stoking the flames .... Pearl obviously disagrees with you.

Boston College job is open as of the last half hour....harder to win in ACC with so many powerhouses to play against, but BC job has to be somewhat attractive with a northeast recruiting base, and I feel like they have money up there.

Anyone know if Buzz would love to work on a tan, and maybe hang-out with some Dale Mabry-type single mom's? If so, Tampa will be perfect!

Come on PET, the guys happily married with four youngsters.  He's certainly not a scumbag like Petrino or Pearl.   ;)  He definitely hates the polar vortex that occurs annually around the Milwaukee area.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
