how much money are we paying people to not coach here

irritating.

2 strikes for VPMK

arguably he should have been ejected from the game for those extensions.

hiring developing and retaining talent is part of the job when you get to the top

he has a poor track record here

i hope he and law and weatherford had a long talk about athletics

one bad hiring move is an anomaly. two is a pattern. three is a trend.

He hired CJS. CBG was in motion when he got here. He extended both of them.

He has no more wiggle room as far as I am concerned.

Dobras and Bradley already sitting on the floor at games. Just change their seats from the endline to the sideline. They're paying to watch this garbage so just give them free seats and give them each a whistle.

Maybe the problem here is the people hiring the president and AD? Two bad ADs and a bad president. Who knows about Law yet, but she seems on board with turning sports around.

For what it's worth, Michael Kelly has hired five coaches since he arrived -- all of the other sports are coached by people hired by previous Athletic Directors.

  • Jeff Scott, Football (2019)
  • Erik Jenkins, Track & Field / Cross Country (2019)
  • Jolene Shepardson, Volleyball (2020)
  • Mindy McCord, Lacrosse (2022)
  • Alex Golesh, Football (2022)

xCBG got here (March 2017) 15 months before Kelly (June 2018) did.

So ... one hiring move that turned out to be terrible (hindsight is 20-20)  ... and two highly questionable extensions out of 15 head coaches.  And that means no more wiggle room?

If they aren’t going to hire a coach that’s has good head coaching experience, I would go with Chucky  Atkins over any assistant coach.

Not all coaching hires are weighted equally. The ones that pay bills have been awful.

Fair enough... but are you saying both football hires are awful?  We know what Jeff Scott turned out to be - but we don't know that Alex Golesh is "awful".

Remember, Kelly did not HIRE Brian Gregory (the other money sport)... Gregory signed a six-year contract in 2017... And it is typical for most coaches to get extensions with a year or two remaining on the contract.  Most here think that Kelly should have waited until after this, Gregory's sixth and final season before thinking about an extension.  That's not how college athletics operates (or professional sports for that matter).  Rarely does a coach get to the end of a contract without an extension, and when that does happen it's because the coach and team/school have not been able to reach an agreement.

So people are bashing Kelly because he:

  1. Whiffed on hiring Jeff Scott, which almost no one expected at the time, and
  2. Followed standard practice in extending Brian Gregory before his final season.

Is that what you mean by "awful"?

(Or you in the "Don't give me facts, I want to be mad" camp).

They tried to hire chucky as an asst a while back but because he didn’t have a degree it was a no

The most awful of those hires might end up being Jolene. That program is flat out trash right now.

No one expected a whiff on Jeff Scott??many of us questioned this good ole boy inexperienced hire that had no business running anything at the time.  He was trash from day 1 when he stayed on at Clemson to coach them after he was hired by not calling plays and watching them get blown out vs recruiting a staff and players.  I admit it is a crap shoot hiring a coach but this was a terrible choice which turned into the worst pick for a Div 1 CFB coach maybe ever.
