If you take the worst defense of his 17 year DC career its still 10 PPG and 100 YPG better than USF's defense last year.

USF under Scott: 2020 39.9 ppg, 2021 34.7 ppg, 2022 41.2 ppg

Orlando’s career as DC:

UConn 75 games; 21.9 ppg

FIU 25 games; 25.3 ppg

Utah State 28 games; 18.4 ppg

Houston 27 games; 22.0 ppg

Texas 40 games; 24.9 ppg

USC 18 games; 29.8 ppg

FAU 12 games; 26.7 ppg

Seems like other than USC he's been an above average DC

Curious what would be Bob Shoop's career averages at all his other stops compared to last year at USF?

That would seem like a more accurate comparison between the two.

Fair point. Here's to hoping now that the common denominators of the last few years (Jeff Scott and S&C staff) no longer being here plays a part into the defensive turnaround.

The thing that scares me is we are still running a defense that has 5 defensive backs put there every play. It didn't work at all for 3 straight years . Our defensive backs are probbaly the weakest part of the defense  over the last 3 seasons and we keep wanting to put 5 defensive backs out there on the field. I think we would be better to run a 4 3 4 or 3 4 3 (my choice) instead of a 3 3 5 defensive scheme.

I agree with the 3-4-3.  My favorite defense  is a 4-3-4. I would rather have two 300Ib DTs & 2 DEs on the line instead of 3 DEs and 1 DT like we did last year.

I am a 4-3 boomer, but my favorite defense is what we didn't do during the last 3 years.

What's a 3-4-3? that's only 10 men

One could argue after watching last year's defense that we may have actually been running 10 guys out there regularly

I agree two big boys on the front line with top ends is the best in college. I think the 3-4-4 is better in the pros where you can get 3 300lb athletic men on the line to create space for 1 or 2 outside rushers. If having 5 defensive backs didn't work for the last three years straight under two defensive coordinators, what is going to make the five defensive backs returning instantly be better? I hope we really emphasize tackling drills for the whole defense.
