My biggest concern here is that both were taking snaps with the starters. What happens if GB gets injured? Who’s next? I’m very concerned that the coaches didn’t handle this well at all. When you look at the media days , Timmy was all for it. Whatever makes the team better. Now this? This is a head scratcher. Why the hell didn’t he bail when Caden Fortin was announced starter last year? Weird stuff man.

I agree man. Timmy was one play away from being the man  and the number 2. How many qbs have we had knocked out of game due to injury behind this oline over the last 2 to 4 years? I feel it was a knee-jerk reaction and foolish because he has to sit this year either way . Hopefully he decides to stay and has a change of heart like marsh.

Scott was very clear about the decision in his presser. Here are the highlights:

-GB completed 80% of his passes since camp open. The next closest QB was 67% (he didn't name which one).

-GB graded out over 90% in making the right play in his attempts.

-Prior to the first practice they polled the offensive players and asked them to list their top 3 leaders. GB, having not had a single practice with the team, was in the top 3 with Cecil and Meech. He received 27 votes. No other QB on the roster received a single vote.

-CJS said that before he brought GB in for a visit, he spoke with Timmy and his father to explain the situation. He said that he was prepared to lose Timmy at that moment. If he wasn't, he wouldn't have brought GB in. Also stated that they told Timmy on Sunday night. There wasn't a single coach that didn't think GB should be the #1. They waited to publicize the Davey O'Brien nomination for GB until after the QB competition closed out of respect for Timmy. It would appear that they handled the situation as best and with as much class as possible.

-Stated that his #1 duty is to put this year's team in the best position to win. GB does that. Can't be concerned with 2 to 3 years from now. Knows Timmy is going to go on and do big things, wishes it was here, but he understands. Explains how he went through something similar with Bryant and Lawrence at Clemson.

-Timmy is the ONLY player that has transferred out since he has been here that he actually wanted to stay. Quite the indictment of everyone else.

wow. so according to what CJS is saying, timmy was... really far off the mark

No GRIT rankings, clearly lower practice performance, and no one on the team saw him as a leader?

just an interesting thing to be coming up, after we definitely thought he'd be the future of the team...

Thanks for the recap.  Sounds like a no-brainer and that the coaching staff handled the situation appropriately.  Moving on.

Still could have been though.  Also being way off the mark is relative when you bring in new mark setters.  Anyway it will all work out...

I think Timmy could have overcome the leadership deficit if he played exceptionally better than GB. That apparently did not happen. It would appear that this was an open competition and it would also appear that GB won it by a country mile.

that's how I am also interpreting it. open competition for everyone, GB is more seasoned and an overall more mature athlete (leadership, GRIT rankings) and swept the board.

hearing that from coach makes his decision look like a no brainer - but still tough considering egos are at stake, and timmy might as well leave and have a QB battle somehwere else and chase the greener grass, right? right....? 🤪

Well . . . we still need a #2 to get better soon.
