And our academic profile can continue to improve if the front door (athletics) becomes more attractive.

Where they really outperform us is in:

  • Other - $340% higher than USF in 2018, or $7.2M higher
  • Contributions - 262% higher than USF in 2018, or $5.2M higher
  • Ticket Sales - 81% higher than USF, or $2.5M higher
  • Student Fees - 34% higher than USF, or $5.9M higher

The "Other" bucket includes but is not limited to including game guarantees, school-specific revenue from bowl games, support from third-parties guaranteed by the school such as TV income, housing allowances, etc.; revenue from sports camps; income from athletics restricted endowments and investments that are used for operations in the reporting year.

Of course we are generate $3.6M more than them through licensing fees and $1.6M more from services and/or monies provided by the university.

What concerns me the most is they generate the second most revenue behind UConn among non-P5 schools. When the next round of realignment comes in 2025, UCF is gone.

By that logic Uconn would be gone too.

At the same time they’ve caught up in athletics we have opened a huge lead on them in academics. It’s not one that can be closed quickly by good hires like a new coach.

Beating us DEFINITELY means more to them than vice versa. That’s not an arguable point.

Absolutely great points about the money numbers, and the gap between us is alarming.  However I don't think there will be a next round of alignment.

ESPN owns all the major teams' tv rights now anyways, and I doubt they'd want to pay more for a conference just because a school moved from conference A to conference B.  And if ESPN doesn't offer substantially more to the expanding conference, the existing schools won't want a pay cut just to get a new member.  (IE see the AAC's strategy when UConn left... leaving the spot open)

there will be a next round of expansion

if we dont make it

we will be in fiu/fau territory

I think the next round of realignment comes in 2025 when the Big 12 GOR expires and Texas and to a lesser degree will look to get paid. It will look similar to when the Big East lost teams to the ACC and needed to reload.

texas may be  going to  the pac 12

We should up them and tell our recruits we are Big 10 bound...about as much chance as they do. 😂

Never happen. They don’t want their program associated with the west coast where they will have less tv viewers. Will PAC allow the TU Network to exist? Unlikely and that is a deal breaker.  Also, none of the Big12 teams will walk away from a conference that has the easiest track to the playoffs.
