Hmm, I'm seeing a pattern.   Perhaps this is why puc left the research to someone else

There have been FBS college football playoff teams going on 22 years so it's not just a 5 year sampling ..... and unless you can find some examples of any not doing what CJS is doing, your points aren't really valid in that regard.

Two teams facing each other in one game does not a playoff make.

Huh?

BCS wasn't a playoff if that is what your 22 years are referring to.

Maybe I am totally misremebring the set up but didn't the top 2 teams play every year for the national championship?

I think in the spirit of what we're talking about, it definitely qualifies ....leaving your current team while it is still playing for a national championship.

xCJL has never stayed with his team on a playoff run rather than joining his new team immediately. That is the only data point that matters. Since xCJL didn't do it then clearly it was sub-optimal for all those other coaches who have done it.

Has a xCJL team ever been on a playoff run?

Yeah I didn’t include it since it wasn’t a CFP game even though it was a national championship game.

Fair enough ...

Pretty sure its almost exactly what I said from my lack of research. There is four examples prior to this year and hardly a telling sample size, maybe the playoffs will prove to be something that is handled completely different than regular coaching changes but as yet it is a bit too new, too novel and too lacking of data to draw any conclusions.
