I disagree with this.

We need an AD that can position us for a conference move, although raising $ is part of that.  One thing LRS brought was the ability to raise funds as well as be heard in his role as Associate Athletic Director and Athletic Director.  We need someone that can advance the program.  A negotiator, salesman, promoter, relationship builder.  The AD can hire a great fundraising staff, people that are specialists at it.

The next AD will likely be around for the next shuffle.  Need to be holding some cards.

And that wasn't even my quote.

We didn't get left behind last time because of lack of infrastructure, so I don't see how it could happen "again."

And DB might be able to do the job, but there's no evidence to support it.

I think the environment has changed somewhat since then. The number of spots are much limited and the programs wanting to move up have increased significantly. P5 will want to see the commitment being made with infrastructure (stadium being the big elephant). Naturally,  this is not the only issue. TV revenue and population also play a role. But infrastructure cannot be ignored this time around.

The A.D. has to be able to do more in order to run an athletic department properly. We all loved Lee Roy, but he made one hire during his tenure - Robert McCullum. I can't forgive him for that one.  🙂

We can always hire someone else to do the day to day operations.

The number of teams that moved up last time was what, 2? How is it much more limited and who wants to move up now that didn't before?

As for the P5 wanting to see commitment, you're guessing, at best.

Mac was hired when we were in CUSA and I think would have been fine had we stayed there, so I give them both a free pass on that hire.

More tellingly was the number of teams that were left behind...3 including us. I can easily name 12 teams looking to move up. In terms of wanting to see commitment I think it would be common sense for the P5 wanting to see this.

Still doesn't mean spaces are more limited and that more people want to move up this time around.

And the only common sense part of the P5 equation is that any new member has to be worth about $40 million a year to the conference.

As stated earlier, no opinion on Mark Harlan, at all.

However, I do hope that if he truly suppressed the generosity of people like @Skingraft, that those people respond by re-opening their thoughts about the Bulls Club (like @Skingraft).  We're just not fortunate enough to have any donors camping in different tents.  Hopefully we get a more unifying leader of the Athletic Department.

Hopefully there are quite a few that disliked MH more than they liked USF Athletics that will come back ..... maybe top off the IPF funding.

He was an absolute disaster. Other than DoJo, he didn't recruit one decent player - just JUCO retreads.

I think I fixed it....bug report.

And now that I am back after making that post, I put Jurich on my list of dark horses to be interviewed.
