How about calling brybull names then, huh?  Kind of a silly point to argue your position with me.

You got involved when you pulled a single sentence out and decided to be pedantic about it.

It's not usually your forte, so I was surprised.

I frequently add facts.  You stated something that was undeniably incorrect.  You based an argument on it.  Thought others should  know your assertion was erroneous, and it does sort of weaken your assumption they'll back out (again, per you).  That's all.

FYI:

Definition of pedantic

1: of, relating to, or being a pedant
  • a pedantic teacher
2: narrowly, stodgily, and often ostentatiously learned
  • a pedantic insistence that we follow the rules exactly

He was an absolute disaster. Other than DoJo, he didn't recruit one decent player - just JUCO retreads.

Yeah, Chris Howard, KG, SoJo all sucked. He doubled his win total from year 1 to year 2 and won 2 games in a conference tournament for the first time in 15 years. He was a disaster because USF MBB was a disaster and woefully ill prepared to enter the, arguably, best college basketball conference in the country.

It's very difficult to argue that Harlan did not leave USF Athletics better than he found them.  Facilities are much improved and APR continues to improve.  These are just two items.  While I personally believe there is no OCS for the forseeable future at least he put the ball in motion with renderings and a query to fans. Not sure he should be hated/bashed because he took a better job closer to his target area.  Good for him.

Go Bulls!

I don't bash him, but I think it's fair that when several state "he left USF Athletics better than he found it", it's accurate to say that's a pretty low bar to judge a someone in that role.  Apparently, given his recent contract renewal, not everyone felt as charitable in assessing his contributions.  He led the program, but leaves virtually no legacy.  At least Woolard can claim he improved facilities.

No legacy ......... yet. Have to wait and see how his hires in the top 2 highest profile sports ultimately turn out, wouldn't you think?

Allow me to say this, this is from my time working for Athletics. There are a couple people who don't get the credit they deserved.

Paul Griffin -  We hear Jim Leavitt and Lee Roy Selmon as the father of USF Football, well, Paul Griffin hired both and was the AD when we started the most successful football start up in the history of college football.

Robert McCollum/Bobby Paschal/ Murry Bartow - not saying the results were always what we wanted, but they did it the right way. (Bobby had success, the other two never found it at USF)

All the track and field coaches - they are asked to be our Title IX saving program, this often keeps them from being competitive. While we don't have great team results because of this, we do have great individual accomplishments because he have had some great coaches in this sport.

Perri Hankins - we used to be a volleyball school. Our best years were right after Perri was fired, don't be confused, those were her players winning for the following coach. Not to say her dismissal wasn't warranted, but walk into the corral and look at the years on all those volleyball banners and you will see what I am talking about.

Barbara Sparks McGlinchy and Barry Clements - both did great things behind the scenes running the day to day of our program for many years.

Our game operations staff at USF over the years - never get any of the credit and they do the most work. Lots of good people on this list, including Bobby Paschal, Rob Higgins, Scott Glaser, Jim Fee and many others.

As a side note, I also think the world of Ken Eriksen, Jose Fernandez and George Kiefer ... but for the most part, I think they get credit for the great programs they run (ran in George's case) ... so they didn't fit on this list.

Anyone not mentioned in this post is not meant to imply that I didn't like them or are disrespecting them.

Many have left a legacy when they depart.....we can hold court on Mark Harlan at a later date, if you wish.  But also keep in mind, Orlando Antigua offsets any success Brian Gregory may have - that's a wash at best! :roflmao:

The A.D. has to be able to do more in order to run an athletic department properly. We all loved Lee Roy, but he made one hire during his tenure - Robert McCullum. I can't forgive him for that one.  🙂

We all thought he was the worst --actually, he was light years ahead of what's his name that was just fired! New lows... Yay!

Paul Griffin deserves to be in the USF athletics hall of fame if he is not already. IMO he was the best AD in the history of USF.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
