Without reading through all the BS, I give my thanks to Harlan. Wish him well on his future at Utah. He left USF better than when he found it. Now the next AD that comes in has a chance to take USF to even higher heights.

The only thing I really care about with a new AD is this....CAN YOU RAISE $...everything else is secondary. Can you make a call and get an appointment with someone to discuss the possibility of making a donation to USF athletics? Do you have the name recognition to do this? Do you have the knowledge to know when to ask or when to continue the relationship and ask later?

Hire Derrick Brooks.

Yup, DB to make it rain and get his face all over the media and a real AD behind him. It's like how I wanted Taggart, great CEO coach with charisma and recruiting chops but wanted better gameday people to run the game.

In what ways?

Ha,ha, ha...my only suggestion was in response to a question he asked me.  He was very receptive towards it and said that he was planning on doing that and expanded on it.  We chatted a number of times after that.   In my observations in the HWC, the longer he was on the job, the more aloof he became towards others in the club.  Personally, I didn’t give a flip, as I wasn’t looking to becoming buddies with him.

I think Boubon Bull’s post is spot on.

This sounds to me like he got tired of the job and it reflected in his relationships with people. He probably had emotionally checked out a while ago thus the aloofness.

I think the CEO is Rob Higgins and DB is his 1st Assistant to the AD.

Just as LRS served to AD Paul Griffin.

Problem is - if DB is not head dog (and maybe even if he is) is he more likely to go to FSU when Cash Taggart calls?

It's all speculation, but does DB really want the AD hassle?

Higgins is a USF guy...I like that.  So are the internal candidates like Clements and Eriksen.

If we can get the best group in there, find a way.

I disagree with this.

We need an AD that can position us for a conference move, although raising $ is part of that.  One thing LRS brought was the ability to raise funds as well as be heard in his role as Associate Athletic Director and Athletic Director.  We need someone that can advance the program.  A negotiator, salesman, promoter, relationship builder.  The AD can hire a great fundraising staff, people that are specialists at it.

The next AD will likely be around for the next shuffle.  Need to be holding some cards.

Don’t see how you can decouple fundraising and being heard/conf positioning. Money makes the world go round and if we don’t have the infrastructure needs taken care of we will get left behind...again. I think DB can do both.

We didn't get left behind last time because of lack of infrastructure, so I don't see how it could happen "again."

And DB might be able to do the job, but there's no evidence to support it.

Hire Derrick Brooks.

The A.D. has to be able to do more in order to run an athletic department properly. We all loved Lee Roy, but he made one hire during his tenure - Robert McCullum. I can't forgive him for that one.  🙂

Put me on Team Higgins...we need qualified individual that has a passion for USF and unfortunately that is a short list. Hopefully he wants the gig.

Don’t want to see us hire another “guy” that is looking for his next job as soon as he gets his office set up here like Harlan did.

Fundraising is critical and #55 would sure help in that arena....but there is so much more to the job than that and DB just does not have that administrative backgrond. Lee Roy did.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
