At first I questioned the purpose of this post, but I don't see any harm in BMM quoting our AD regarding any realignment-related thoughts or issues.  While no decisions will be made based upon media perception, it doesn't hurt to be in the mix when it comes to media mentions.

Woolard always seemed disinterested in realignment talk.  Good to have an AD that's not afraid to address the issue, notwithstanding our present support for the AAC.

Two five-team divisions would allow the Big 12 to continue their round-robin play... and really doesn't affect their schedule, it just means the two "best" teams may not be in the CG.  (Think Clemson & Florida State - what the ACC wants to do).

In reality, the Big Ten amendment is to undo what the ACC wants to do -- and has no real effect on the Big Twelve.

Oh, and one more VERY IMPORTANT thing to remember.  This has to be voted by ALL  of DIVISION ONE.  This is not part of the "Autonomy" for the P5 -- so all schools in the FBS, FCS, and even Division III (no football) have to vote on this.

 

don't forget about the way it works now.  Each P5 conf vote counts as 2 votes and the G5 conf's count as 1 vote.

The Big 12 is going to do something this summer.

(1) The Big 12 is afraid that without a conference championship, it's going to lose out with the selection committee at some point in the future. But when you have ten teams, however you slice it, you can't keep from inbreeding with a championship game. And what if the inbreeding leads to an upset in the championship game? It will be tough for a 10-team conference to produce a championship game and champion that is equal to the other power conferences with more teams. Well, let's just say that the odds aren't good that things will work out smoothly for them.

They are trying to make it more legit by saying they want more out-of-conference games with P5 teams. Maybe that will work. Maybe...

(2) The Pac 12 and Big 10 aren't going to sit back and let the Big 12 do what it wants without a conference championship. They don't want to see a Big 12 team usurp one of their teams before selection Sunday due to the fact that a Big 12 team didn't have to prove itself with a true conference championship game.

The odds are good that they will expand this summer. They missed out on the playoffs last year. This year, OU almost got bumped out because there was no championship game. Had Notre Dame won against Stanford, that would have been interesting...

A CCG against the 3rd or 4th best team in the conference won't help the B12 and you never know how things will play out from year to year. Right now they have the purest indicator of a conference champion and part of me hopes they are never forced to go to a CCG ...

 In an ideal world, I'd agree with you Trip, that 10-team conferences with round-robin scheduling is the best way to go. However, the other P5 conferences all play an extra game, and if the B12 wants to keep up, they will have to as well, eventually.

Dude, you're talking the God's gift to college football conference. Every year every team plays the toughest schedule in the history of college football so nothing will ever be in the way of their champion making the playoffs ....
