Big 12 Might Be Forced to Expand

Recommended Posts

Guest PCBull14

Its the truth. The other conferences are not going to make it easy for the Big-12. I didn't understand why the media keep running its mouth about a Conference Championship game with only ten teams. Why in the hell would the SEC,B10,PAC-12 and ACC agree to that. They might get the ACC but the rest won't, and that's only because the ACC has its own motives.

Next year is going to be key, we are peaking at just the right time.  This could be a story book season for us.

The big 12 will have to expand its just of matter of when. The longer the better for us especially if we can keep the momentum going through the bowl game and into next season. If we can win a conference title and win a new years 6 bowl we could easily be in the discussion if not get an invite with houston/byu. Im curious as to why everyone thinks houston should be in the big 12 given they already have 4 teams in texas and houston would be #5. Wouldn't they look to expand to states where they don't have any teams so they could expand the viewing audience nationally?

I would doubt the Big XII would have an interest in Houston unless they balance things out.  That means they'd really need to go to 14.  We're fortunate because we're in Florida and that will be of interest to the networks.  Of course, Houston would also interest them because of how large the city is and Cincinnati would reach an untapped area for the Big XII.  Temple had a good season but has a poor history, though Philly is a tempting add.

Would they just take one of UCF or USF or both?  UCF picked the wrong year to have a terrible, terrible season.  A strong season for USF next year with the potential of keeping Taggart long term if we're Big XII makes us alluring.  I have a feeling the other Texas teams will not want to add Houston.  USF, Memphis, and Cincy are attractive.  Large metropolitan areas with potential to grow regionally.  Memphis and Cincy also have a good history with basketball.  UConn or Temple next?  UConn has the basketball that could make them most attractive, is near NYC, and near ESPN.

If we get invited it may be with the stipulation that we need to build our own stadium within a set amount of time, but with a big TV deal in a P5 conference, fund raising could take care of itself.

don't forget all the allies that USF/Judy/Harlan have with the Big 12. I think people overlook that. But I hope they don't expand for at least five years as we need more time to build the fan base

Wins mean next to nothing. Ask Maryland and Rutgers. Its about TV sets and viewers. Yes, agreed that Houston has little to offer a Big 12 flooded state of Texas for the networks.
