It was piss poor planning on Skips to leave cupboard bare.  However after watching Taggart for two years I no longer blame Holtz.  Good coaches work with what they have and make them better. George Oleary seems to get this.

OK, just a bit confused.  Hasn't he been there for 11 years?  I know UCFers are slow to graduate but I'm guessing everyone on the team are his recruits by now.

Thought he meant that UCF's recruiting has historically not been all that .... maybe I misunderstood.

Maybe I did. I thought he was saying that he was coaching up someone else's guys.

We hired USF's OC from this season and they've had the worst offense in college football for two straight years.

lol you ever get tired of being so negative?

Sorry I did not fully explain myself but this is what I meant.  They have never had spectacular recruiting as far as ratings go but seems to have an eye and ability to coach them up

People forget that he was a conference and national COY before the Notre Dame indiscretion ...

Holtz is a good coach. I was really disappointed to see him struggle here.

Not a good coach, he's a good figurehead that either succeeds or fails based on his assistants. He did an atrocious job of picking assistants here. Remember, this is the same Holtz that got fired as offensive coordinator at South Carolina by his pops.

It only seems like I'm negative because you're reading my football posts.

That IS a good coach. Great coaches are the ones who completely impose their will on the assistants and win anywhere ...

Does winning anywhere somehow exclude USF? I'm not convinced that Holtz is a good coach, and he's incapable of imposing much of anything. He sure is a nice guy though.

The winning anywhere pertained to a great coach, which Skip is obviously not.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."

    Terry Lucas, 09/26/22
