Wow, I didn't expect that much on the defensive side of the ball, and with that many releases yeah, the QB coach remaining is a head-scratcher. This is great for the kids--3 years, 3 different OCs. Sure hope the next one is a great teacher.

Earlier I wasn't sure but I think this is a smart move for USF.

 

Regardless if you are a Taggart supporter or dissident, the USF football trajectory was not good. Do we truly need another year to figure that out, I think not. After this past year, its arguable we were trending upward, and even if that is the case, the improvement rate was much to slow in such an important point in time (conference realignments).

 

So what do you do? Make some drastic changes, retool the coaches b/c you have to feel the talent is better than its been in several years. Best case scenerio you land just the right combination of coaches to make some magic happen. Worse case you are slightly worse than you would have been had the coaches been retained. What is evident is that USF was not going to be were it needed to be next year...

I think, basically, Harlan told Taggart 'This is our university's team, not your science experiment. We're going to install competent coordinators and we want your input, but they're not going to be handcuffed by you from doing their jobs. If you want to grow as a coach and lead USF football, let us help you. If you want to resign, there's the door.'

Because CWT wanted to fire the players and Harlan said that couldn't happen.

If Harlan said anything to that effect, which I doubt, he has no business being an AD. Competent AD's don't hire coordinators ...If that's the way he felt, just completely clean house.

It all makes me wonder just how far CWT threw those guys under the bus. I'm sure Harlan was plenty candid that CWT's job is officially under the microscope, so he gets as much latitude to cut whomever THIS year. Next year, well, a candidate coordinator that doesn't believe in CWT's plan should probably just take a pass on USF. Just my 2 cents.
