I still stand by 1 more year.... If he's under .500 by the half way point, then we know what to do

He's gone and he did it to himself, that's all one needs to know.  When UCF walks a mud hole through the USF team on their home field, that's all that will need to be said about the tenure of one Willie "The Mechanic"/Willie "Low-T" Taggart.  Good riddance to bad rubbish.

Inside info or speculation?

Inside his own mind.

Firing Taggart is not the only move that could be made that would have an impact.  Harlan can also put pressure on him to hire a good offensive coordinator or defensive coordinator or force Taggart to relinquish some of the controls in one way or another.

Without firing Taggart, it could become a power play, which could possibly cause more problems, but one thing is for sure, something has got to change.

Really? Where is he going? Who pays his buyout? Who continues to pay Holtz? Who pays the new coach?

We have to pay his salary ANYWAY...so why pay him to drive this program lower?  We have to pay Holtz no matter what.

Give Harlan some credit.  You don't keep a dud because you can't afford to fire him...you fire him because your program can't afford to keep him.

I could agree with this, and that could be the compromise...Taggart can stay & recruit, but the O coordinator & D coordinator must have ample control, so they can manage their duties (and so Taggart doesn't stray into areas of ignorance).

Taggart has some good young talent, and if I thought he had coaching skills, I'd beating the drums like crazy to argue he stays.  I just have seen ample evident that he's out of his element w/r/t coaching acumen, so if the players can't overcome his ineptitude and the coaches don't have the ability to run their teams, we're looking at 4-5 win seasons for a LOOOOOONG time [or worse]

He's not being fired. What should be demanded is that he simply relinquish control of the offense completely to a coordinator that we can hire to run whatever offense the coordinator wants to run. He seems like he'd be fine in the PR and recruiting aspect of being a head coach and even handling the players he seems good. He just can't run an offense and won't get out of his on way to success.

I think most would be ok with that.

ala Bobby Bowden

I like it. I just don't see his ego agreeing to it.

To think USF cannot afford to fire Taggart is just stupid.  It is not as if USF is holding bake sales to keep the program afloat.  If keeping Taggart on as head coach yields in diminished returns, i.e. ticket sales, that outweighs just firing him and buying out his contract, then Taggart is a goner.

Is the question, can USF afford to fire Taggart or can they afford to NOT fire Taggart.  That is the mark of a quality AD.

Case in point, USF men's BB.  Coach OA is working with a very young squad, yet he coached a competitive game against NCST on the road.  While USF lost, the team showed fight and potential.  That is a good indicator that Coach OA already has a good grasp of how to coach the team and what direction he wants to take the team.

Remember Taggart's first game?  A very bad loss to an FCS team?  Instead of optimism, the first thing I thought was "WHAT THE FUDGE?"  Ever since then, there has been nothing but WHAT THE FUDGE moments with this team.
